What actually is India's first choice XI right now? (That is, the XI most likely to play in the WC, not CW's opinion of what their best XI should be.)

Whatever it takes!!!
Is Kuldeep or Shami at eight as listed in a couple of proposed sides above at least a spot too high? Seems a very big drop off from Jadeja at seven
2 spots 2 high IMO...

Bumrah and Shami are #10s
Kuldeep is absolutely useless in LO cricket as a batsman.. the only time he can do a job is as a pinch blocker of sorts.
Siraj is a #11.

Batting deep makes sense if everyone plays aggressively and a team would need the #8 on standby often. Everyone in the Indian batting order bats conservatively so we need to back them to bat through and trust 4 specialist bowlers and the two allrounders to do their jobs
Its not like you wont collapse just because you are batting conservatively, though. And it has been our bane in world tournaments since 2013.

Jaddu
Shardul/Axar/Ashwin/Washy
Bumrah
Kuldeep
Siraj

I think if Axar is not fit for the WC, they will pick one of Ash or Washy to be the 3rd spinner in the squad.

Thanks both. So just one batting slot to decide and then it's a choice between Shami (for max bowling but a long tail) or a bowling allrounder.

Australia doesnt look like the team that will be making the semis even with Maxwell and Head back
Cummins is playing his first game in ages and his first whiteball game in an even longer time period than that, starc and haze are both not playing and where playing 2 specialist bowlers + sean abbott and a bunch of batting allrounders. I'm really not concerned by india smashing this attack around, especially given we've dropped a few chances/
