Slow morning at work, thought I'd have a go at naming our first 7 bowling attacks (mixing up formats a bit)

Starc
Cummins
Hazlewood

J.Richardson
Boland
Neser

Abbott
Morris
S.Johnson

Behrendorff
Ellis
Sutherland

Paris
Bird
Meredith

K.Richardson
Bartlett
Sams

Steketee
W.Agar
McAndrew

?Siddle

So that's 20+ seam bowlers I'd be expect to be able to do some sort of a job, in at least some format, to a competitive level. And that's ignoring all rounders like Cam Green.
So 2 of the fast bowlers playing today, Sandhu & Rogers, didn't even make my list of the top 7 attacks. They're decent domestic bowlers but still most of the rest of these guys must have been unavailable for 1 reason or another

I reckon your being a but harsh on sandhu. Can't be bothered digging up the numbers, but my recollection is that he's been very good in shield and one day stuff since he moved to QLD and has also done well for the thunder when he's been fit enough to rock up for them. Rogers was also one of the best bowlers across the one day and BBL stuff last year and has a gun FC record. Tasmania just refuse to play him in red ball stuff consistently. God knows why.

This Rae guy looks quite whippy. Bowls a heavy ball and quicker than he looks like he should be. Bit of Chris Martin about him and not just his lid

Mate I said the're decent domestic bowlers, I rate them both quite highly. But I can't imagine they're in the reckoning for international cricket at the moment barring like 15 injuries.

Should have elaborated a bit more. Issue was with sandhu's placement, personally have him a bit higher up that list, higher than w.agar, mcandrew, kane, sams and meredith atleast.

I agree with a few of those, personally I have Sandhu and Rogers ahead of most of those but my list was based partly on my opinion and partly on the selectors proclivities, and for some reason they keep picking Sams & Kane in international squads.

For what it's worth I'd much rather have Rogers and Sandhu at the Vics than most of the bowlers we trotted out last season, like Perry.

Jewell get's himself into some REALLY awkward positions while playing the pull. Gotten out a few times attempting that weird hockey flick/pull type shot to short balls that have bounced more than expected. If kugglejin/rae are getting him out with that I shudder to think what wood would do to him.

There's something really loose about Jewell's batting. He's got all the talent in the world and looks like he should be kicking on but he just tends to get himself out, out of nowhere.

1st ball I watch and davies plays the loosest flap to the short ball imaginable. The fact he's still not managed to figure out how to play the short ball is beyond me.

Some of the dismissal's to the short ball this game from the Aus A game have been dreadful. The decks definitely got some extra bounce in it, but it's still not a good sign that a bunch of Aus-A batsmen are playing the short ball like shreyas iyer when there's a bit of extra bounce in the deck. Turner's the only guy who's looked even mildly comfortable vs it.

Turner is a proper ODI bat, looks out of place in this company. Should have got more of an opportunity for Aus.

What on earth was that Davies dismissal, LOL. Charged down the pitch to loft a cover drive straight then just seemingly mind blanked and top edged it straight up.

I remember thinking Rae looked pretty good a couple of years ago, while this is grim for Australia A I at least am mildly pleased to see him go well

He is, but the problem he has had (across all formats) is the tendency to randomly have these bursts where he looks like he barely knows what end of the bat to hold. I too think he is a touch unlucky not to play more for Australia in both white ball formats, but there has been a couple occasions where he has gone completely cold at inoppurtune moments selection wise

Tbh, a little 20 (15) can be handy in a small chase. Obviously it's disappointing to throw it away and less than ideal but not the worst innings from Davies in the context. Would be better if Aus A had a stronger tail though

What's a realistic assumption for sutherland's ceiling with the bat? I remember him being toted as an "allrounder" when he first came through and making a few solid 50's early on in the marsh cup for VIC, but after that he went a few years looking like a genuine tailender. Would always get a big score in the VIC pre-season 3 day game then do SFA in the actual season, then all of a sudden last year he was one of the best finisher's in the BBL and had a good season with the bat in the shield.

Hard to tell if he just hit a good form patch, like Ashley Noffke did that couple seasons, or of it's a sign of genuine improvement. I think he could end up being a more than handy no. 8 or even no. 7 at a pinch
