If we want a strong bowling lineup with good batting, go with Wasim. Wasim will bat at 8 and keeper at 7 but you get a top tier ATG pace bowler.

If we want a strong batting lineup with good bowling, go with Botham. Botham can bat at 7 and keeper at 8. You get a very good bowler and a very good batsman at 7.
Agreed on Botham, but I'd go Marshall over Wasim if I wanted a strong bowling lineup with only good batting. Marshall is worse batsman than Wasim but not by that much.

Lindwall > Davidson.
Agreed. My main knock against Davidson is him only playing 44 Tests. That's less than Shoaib Akhtar. Obviously scheduling of Tests was less back then, but Lindwall could manage 61, playing before Lindwall, with a presumably lighter schedule, and a career probably delayed in starting due to the war.

Injuries obviously not Davidson's fault, but interesting to wonder what more could have been with Davidson.

Lindwall is also the better test batsman. Their FC credentials are irrelevant because they did have full tests career where Lindwall scored 2 tons to Davidson's 0.

basing this on just no of 100s is dumb since by the same logic Ashwin > Colin because he has more 100s

2 tons and 5 fifties vs 0 tons and 5 fifties. Averages down the order are meaningless and I'd rather look at innings of substance. I think looking at FC record over tests is even dumber. Davidson has the tied test performance but that's it, really. Ashwin > Davidson as a test batsman by far.

Colin isnt Davidson

is Gillespie now better than Davidson because he has a test 200?? or is Thakur nearly as good as Davidson because he has only 1 less 50? this entire premise is silly

Thakur and Davidson probably are comparable batsmen though. And Wasim's double ton against competent opposition definitely makes him a better batsman than Davidson and Marshall for me. Akram achieved significantly more with the bat than Marshall and Davidson in tests and is hence a better test batsman. Being worse at bullying FC trundlers doesn't make him a worse test batsman.

I would also take Ashwin over Pollock as a batsman and AR. F8 me.

I would take Wasim over Marshall at 7 but not 8.

The added stipulations make Marshall a better choice but Wasim was a substantially better batsman to me.
Yeah Wasim is easily the better bat. I voted Marshall because he's still a pretty solid 8 and the marginally but clearly better bowler; bowling all-rounder is a sometimes acceptable tag for an 8 imo. Hadlee is always seen as a bowling AR, but sticking him at 7 feels dicey. If the post was who you would rather have at 7, that's quite different. I would vote Wasim then for sure.

I voted for Lindwall to protest against the assertion that Davidson is better because of his FC average.
