*Official* Australia A in New Zealand 2022/23

The reason why you keep hearing about Harris, Bancroft and Renshaw is that they are still currently better than Ward, Jewell, Hunt, Street or any of the other “new wave” untried failures we presently have stinking up the shield. Would kill for a break out season from anyone of them.
It's all a bit grim, honestly. Our middle order batting stocks aren't much better, either. Really need a few guys to kick on.

I feel like some people on here are a bit harsh on Harris and renshaw, though. Renshaws made runs for Aus-A, in the shield and county cricket recently. Only thing you can hold against him is the India series, and honestly, taking a guy who's spent the past 12-18 months exclusively opening in SENA, and asking him to bat middle order vs Ashwin and jadeja on those horrid Indian sandpits we got served is like asking a fish to climb a tree. His fielding definitely needs work. He was poor in india and so bad as a sub in England that they swapped him from 12th man position mid ashes.

Would have to be the best New Zealand ‘A’ performance I’ve ever seen. Against Australia to boot. Should give him a deserved run in the national team especially over a decrepit Wagner
Not the worst idea, I've always been impressed mostly by kuggs's durability....95 fc games, 96 list a's, 144 t20's...for a guy who used to clock low to high 140's once upon a time + bat in the lower middle order....relatively injury free huh. Needs to stop keeping secrets and pass his roid cycle to fisher and sears.

Target was about the same ( close) the one in Lincoln & Brisbane but better team win on ❤both Occasion( April 2023 )❤

April 2023 Nz scored 365/7 to win by 3 wkts now again nzA won after scoring 147 in 1st innings (wow)

Back to the Aus opener point though, I have to agree it is pretty grim that none of the younger generation (the ones that actually have made runs occasionally that is) have really kicked on and had the breakout season spoken of here. It's disappointing, but the odd good innings here and there does not a test player make

As for those who have been around a bit longer, would definitely put Renshaw a bit above Bancroft or Harris. Not really a fan but I really do rate the other two extremely lowly

I still don't understand the performance from Kuggeleijn. This is a guy who can't take wickets to save himself in Plunket Shield, who got BazBalled to oblivion on Test debut, yet put him in front of some Aussies & he puts them to the sword. Is this what Stead &co see in him?
Not so strange considering his whippy into-the-wicket bowling style naturally suits Aussie wickets.

This really is an incredibly surprising result though for our D side to give Australia A such a shellacking in their own backyard when I can't imagine many of those NZ players would have played in Australia much if at all at any level.

I agree we need blokes to kick on but I don't mind our middle order options. From Marnus, Smith, Travis, Green, Marsh and Hardie we have the spectrum of test class players down to promising youngsters. I certainly ate humble pie about Marnus but I don't feel sheepish because I now rate Bison. When he came into the side he was trash. Couldn't hit a straight ball. Then there was the false dawn when he hit runs against England. Recently though he was influential winning us a WC. Now he's scored a ton and a fifty in England and was fearless against the short stuff from Wood. I can't help but like a player who takes on fast bowling. Shows they have character and fight. And he was self effacing and humorous in the interview afterwards. He's expressed gratitude for his recent success. Been impressive in every way.

I'm glad Hardie is getting selected for internationals and I'd have him in the 15 for the WC. I think we can carry him and its time to move Stoin on. I kind of rate Handscomb. Now if you were to confront me on that I'd probably back down. Defending the hands that comb isn't a hill I choose to die on. But he can be useful in certain conditions and done ok on sub con bunsens.

I talk up Harris BUT only in the context of our other options. And I'd pick him first when Warner retires. I just think Bancroft is naive, Renshaw dumb and the younger players aren't his equal. Matt Short is his closest rival imo. I certainly get it if others prefer Renshaw, Bancroft or even one of the pretenders. Much like Handscomb, I'm not dying in a ditch to defend Marcus.

NZ should play all their future Australia tours in August. Conditions in Brisbane this week were pretty much Auckland in March.

Weather here is great atm - 26 & not a cloud in the sky

I have just been for a swim in the ocean but don’t know whether I would be doing that in Auckland in March
