Rachin played all three games this series - batted 8 twice and 7 once, and bowled a grand total of one over.

Why bother?

"Exposure" probably. "Good to have him in the nets with the squad" "around the setup"

I get the feeling nzc recognise his talent but are also afraid to play him in his natural spot - which is the worst of both worlds. Will just ruin his game imo

It's the worst selection I can remember. He is achieving nothing for himself, or the team. If he was a capable hitter but wasn't getting a go, I could understand...but he isn't. Woeful.

which is why I think he should open or play at 3 in a Badrinath role if he is getting selected. Having him at 7 or 8 is of no use to the team or him.
He's just not very good at T20 cricket yet and probably shouldn't be picked at all, but yeah if they're going to pick him based on talent he should be batting in the top 3.

could be that someone higher up likes him for his potential and influences his selection but the coaching staff don’t rate his talent appropriately enough

Well he is capable Lower order batsman for Wc in india who saves nz In test while batted 85 minutes to draw the test vs likes of Ash & Jadoo.

He always click when it matter most, nz's M. Bracewell give him challenge for # 7 spot, MB very handy in test matches but Not know his stats in ODI

I would pick Rachin in my ODI team

this is the peak post of mixing formats and confusing players imo

Did actually bat well in the first game tbf.
Didn't see that...that is his high water mark as a finisher, 21 off 11 v UAE. Again, I don't feel great saying this, and I think he's a decent talent (maybe not as much as others might see). But he's being used in a completely unsuited role. It's nuts he's been used as a specialist hitter.

I don't see how picking him as a #7/8 bowling allrounder helps him develop, at all, if he's not bowling. It's just insanity.
It doesn't, one bit. His T20 bowling record is actually very good, and he did none of it. EDIT: I mean, it does help a bit, him being in the environment, batting against skilled guys in the nets, feeling more comfortable in the environment etc. But it won't help to build the skills towards the roles he is more suited to, which are opening the batting in Tests/ODIs and being a part-time spin option.

Personally, I don't think Ravindra will be a T20I regular going forward, certainly not as a top-order guy. Even within his own generation, I think there's too much competition that he can't get past. Tests & ODIs? Yes, perhaps as an heir to Conway. T20Is? No. He could come in occasionally like Latham in 2nd-string sides, but other than that...

England fielding 40 players is itstl.
SA20 going on at the same time, I would rather be playing in that. Better players and standard.
DT headling 'Mark Wood could miss India Tests after signing lucrative UAE T20 contract'. More likely to be injured from the itstl the reason he would miss India.
