I mean, depending on your age this could've been 30 years ago or 30 days ago.
Haha, 38 years...so back to the halcyon days of beating Australia in Test matches, and also over there.

First thing I heard of it was my work mate asking me if I wanted to watch the highlights, of a game I had no idea was occurring. Welcome to the modern international calendar, I guess.

I wouldn't have ever thought I'd live to see the day a touring side would bring a C Test team overseas due to a clash with their domestic comp, either, but here we are.

Oh they're actually winning. 15 off 30 required for their first ever win against NZ (or any other full member that isn't Ireland or Zimbabwe)

Loss like this was always bound to happen. NZ are playing a second XI and jamming a bunch of borderline no-rounders/half cooked youngsters in against a solid outfit. Waseem and asif khan are both class with the bat in this format. Surpised not to see that young leggie who took a hattrick vs SL last t20 wc missing out here, what's the go with him?

I mean honestly, this bowling attack is a bit poor from NZ. Jamieson's just come back from an injury and has never been great in t20I/at higher franchise level, lister's stats don't even seem good enough to demand a consistent spot in a domestic NZ white ball team. Southee and santner are good but outside of that they've got 3/4 allrounders in their that aren't good enough. You can't only pick 4 frontline bowlers and rely on 6th options to make up the rest when 2 of your frontline four bowlers are terrible.

Neeshaw is an issue aswell. Fine cricketer, but he's not good enough to bat higher than 7 and can't be relied on for more than 2 overs on a game to game basis. Having him means you need to try and jam in another allrounder or two to make up the numbers. Rachin's use is just mindboggling here. What's the point of playing him here as a specialist #7 bat. FFS Santner's never gonna bat 3-5 in a full strength team, what's the point in shoehorning him in so high up and forcing rachin down.

Massive congrats to the UAE. Well done.

Re NZ - we pick the same XI as the 1st game but make it even worse by batting Santner at 3!

Ravindra is picked as a specialist no 8 and fielder in a T20???

The other 4 players in the squad (Foxcroft, Young, Duffy, and Ashok really need to play in the 3rd match).
