I've just seen that hilarious tweet by Warner wishing good luck to the Matildas and to watch it out if the Poms ask to change the ball. He may no longer have a career as a Test opener, but surely one as a stand up comedian awaits....

Well if England score a goal where the ball moves strangely in the air that will be deja vu for him.

Crazy final 10 mins but Spain were the better side. Questions about the keeping for the winner though.

Yeah, she'll be disappointed with that one. Not that she got much support from her defenders; nobody closed down the scorer, and then they stayed on the edge of the 6 yard box instead of pushing out. But as you say, Spain the better side from the bits that I saw.

That was a good game to watch. I was selfishly hoping for a late equaliser to take us into extra time, but can't deny that Spain were worthy winners.

This was the BBC description of the winner:

"Well it comes from a corner which misses everyone and comes out to the captain, Olga Carmona right on the edge of the area.

She absolutely smacks it with her left foot and it hammers off the underside of the bar and into the net."

No, the corner didn't miss everyone, it was played directly to the scorer. And no, she doesn't absolutely smack it, she all but crosses it towards the goal and the keeper should do better.

Kerr starts, in for Van Egmond, and Polkinghorne replaces the unwell Kennedy. England are unchanged from the semi-final.

This from Jonathan Liew
Palpable tension in the media room before the game, where an uneasy truce appears to have broken out between the Australian and English journalists. The losers have to go to Brisbane for the third-place playoff. As if the stakes weren’t already high enough.

Is Brisbane really that bad?

Never ceases to amaze me that after producing some of the greatest singers & songwriters ever, we get this shower of an anthem that no Australian likes

At the moment there's a serious difference in class between these sides, but if England don't take a chance sooner or later they'll regret it.
