What would Ashwin and Jadeja's records look like if they debuted a decade earlier?

its not as I said they made bouncy pitches when South Africa went there and i doubt they have any money to engineer pitches like that for their team
Theoretically, why would they do that? SA aren't exactly the financial powerhouse that Indian cricket is

He should have taken it seriously then. Indian tail was a joke during his time and he was part of it. There were very rare moments that he and Srinath did somewhat ok with the bat. Otherwise, it was always Sachin out, all out.

Yes, he might be the slightly better bowler but it does not outweigh what Ashwin gives with the bat over him. My Indian ATG XI will have Ash-Jaddu combination over Kumble, Bedi, Prasanna etc. to give that extra weight with the bat without losing anything with the ball.
Sachin out all out? I thought despite their weaknesses in bowling depth India always had pretty solid batting around then. Azharuddin, Dravid, Laxman etc had a big overlap with Srinath and Kumble

Laxman opened at that time and was bad. Azhar wasn't that good and Dravid was at 3 but yes once Dravid got established, the lineup became stronger.

All I was questioning was the claim that the spinnifying of WI wickets was driven by a "reliance on BCCI money".

That they have become more spin friendly is definitely no secret
That's a bizarre conspiracy theory. I mean BCCI's power/influence is being overestimated here.

i lived through the Kumble era and the Ashwin era. Ashwin is better and it’s not that close.
This for me too. I have watched most of the matches played by both. Kumble was never intimidating to opponents as Ashwin and Jadeja are at home.

Ashwin averages like 20 in India and 29 outside of India. Kumble averages like 24 in India and 35 outside of India.

You can’t take their stats at face value and compare them like that tbf. You have to acknowledge the relatively better conditions Ashwin has enjoyed vs Kumble, compare them against the other spinners in the era and go from there.

But then again this thread has done none of that for 7 pages so why start now.

I agree. I was just pointing out that it’s not just Ashwin’s home average that’s superior to Kumble’s.

He's probably better, but there's no way I can agree it's not close. Kumble/Chandra/Bedi/Ashwin/Jadeja are all approximately of equal quality.
Yeah agreed that they're very close. I rate Kumble better primarily due to longevity really, not a lot else to split them in my mind.
