Guaranteed to win some domestic trophies and bar City or Madrid, not sure their is any other sides more likely to win the champions league.

Realistically where could he go next year? City and Madrid won't need him so while he could stay in England not a cert he would win anything with anyone else either sadly.
PSG

Won’t win CL but walk in French league every year

that's a fair point, but i'm not sure the gap between them is significant enough to matter much
I think the upfront fee for Caicedo (99mil) is marginally less than Rice's (100m). It's the add-ons that would make Caicedo more expensive (110m>105m).

It's obviously more than Liverpool would have liked to pay but they're desperate and he adds quality, less of a gamble than Lavia too. I think it puts them comfortably in the top 3 midfields in the league.

Agree Rice is the better of the two but in the circumstances and current market, the price is about right.

Goes to show just how good Liverpool are at hiding how much money they have.

For weeks it's been constant news stories about how frugal the owners are and how they were penny pinching by not paying the $50mil for Lavia. In reality they've been playing power poker and it's put them in prime position to land the best option on the market.

Chelsea will be left to pick up Lavia and Adams. Wonder what role FFP played in all this too.

you reckon? I think, due to the vast difference in price tags that Lavia is less of a gamble. I don't think Caicedo is twice the player Lavia is, but hey it seems like I'm in the minority there. If I'm chelsea, I'd be happy with Lavia

Caicedo is easily the better of the two right now and that's what the price tag reflects. Chelsea were prepared to play pretty well $100mil for him too - from what I read they just couldn't match Liverpool's offer due to FFP. Seems their payment plan was structured very differently too.

I think the thing is that Liverpool desperately need someone that's ready to go now. Lavia is undoubtedly good, but he's only 19yo and likely not that much of an upgrade on Bajcetic, who has similar experience and potential. There would almost certainly be teething issues and I'm not sure they have time to wait with Klopp's contract running down and guys like Salah, Alisson, VVD at the back end of their LFC careers. In terms of hitting his prime, he's probably at least 5 years away while Caicedo is the here and now.

It's a huge price to pay but its about the going rate for a world class player, especially within the prem. A small but relevant factor is also that he's already played alongside MacAllister, it reduces the risk because in theory it should help get him embedded in the system quicker.

I don't particularly agree with Caicedo being easily the better of the two - but you make a fair enough point. Caicedo has had 1 full season in the league (last season). Lavia has the same experience (just a handful less games). I disagree on you saying Lavia is at least 5 years away, I believe he's a lot closer being ready than that. Caicedp is currently the better player for sure, it's just not that big of a gap as you suggest.

Caicedo walks into almost any midfield in world football right now. Lavia doesn't.

I think that's the gap. Most rival fans will admit this makes quite a significant difference to Liverpool's top 4 chances, I don't think the same could be said about the Lavia signing.

I think he's mad for doing it tbf - like he had Shearer's record waiting to be taken. If he wins them the Champions League, well then fair enough
That record would just be an embarrassment if he ended up with zero trophies.

Good to see players like Mo Salah refusing to go to Saudi Arabia.

Top footballers get paid vast amounts of money. Do they really need more? Plus they can't play in the Champions League over there.

Unless of course Saudi Arabia buy the Champions League and rename it the European and Middle Eastern Champions League. Which they are quite capable of doing.

Salah is smart he knows that the offer will always be on the table for him no matter what
