Subs that's not equal. Sachin averaged 45, 50 and 17 vs McGrath. 2 good and one horrible.

Lara: 44, 33, 91, 32, 46 and 57. 3 good, 2 poor, 1 unreal.
Ok fair enough, I forgot the 95 series. Yeah I can give Lara a slight edge based on that.

Fwiw, in matches featuring Donald: Sachin averages 32.9 and Lara 34.05. But since Donald dismissed Lara more I guess I'll give Sachin the edge.

Anyway back on topic. Are we also going to do a poll on Sobers vs Sachin as overall cricketers???

but Sachin averaged 17 in the 2004 series in India. That's horrible.
In 2 tests. After returning from a long injury. Included one of his great knocks of 50 odd on a square turner where Clarke was Australia's most lethal bowler and Australia failed to chase 105 or so in 4th innings. Context matters etc.

Apparently it still counts as failing against McGrath.

Yeah but context should matter for everyone. Lara got owned in 1996-97 i agree but in 2000 he was clearly injured but no one not you not Subs gives him a pass for that. That's being hypocritical.

In any event, it doesn't change the fact that Lara was significantly better vs McGrath than Sachin 45 >36.

"Lara, who had gone into the Test following scores of 0, 4, 0 and 17, nursed a troubled shoulder and a niggling hamstring throughout the memorable 260-minute innings to lift the West Indies after three wickets had fallen for 86 runs." Further: "Despite struggling with a chronic hamstring strain that has plagued him for five months, Lara showed his determination to regain his touch with a double-century last weekend against Australia A.

" 'My hamstring has been bothering me for five to six months but I’ve only missed one one-day international because of it,’ "Lara said.

" 'The main thing is you’re there to play cricket for your country and whatever the circumstances are you’ve got to stick it out.' " Context is everything.....
