Steve Smith being greater than Gavaskar, Hutton and Sobers is pretty contentious. Agree with the rest.
You are overrating Smith hard. His record in 3rd and 4th innings are pretty bad.You could pretty much say that with Australia and almost every other test nation. Which is disturbing. Let's have a look since I have no life and I'm bored:
Aus vs Ind
Don > Sachin
Smith > Sunil
Ponting > Dravid
Chappell > Kohli
Border > Azhar
Aus vs Eng
Don > Hobbs
Smith >/= Hutton
Ponting = Hammond
Chappell > Sutcliffe (?)
Border < Barrington
WI
Don > Viv
Smith >/= Sobers
Ponting < Lara
Chappell > Headley (longevity)
Border = Walcott
I won't bother with the rest. So maybe it's not so unfair after all.
Amarnath. India's only away bully.Underrating Border massively. He's better than Barrington and Walcott. Azharuddin is also a very questionable pick as India's 5th best batsman. That's either sehwag or Vvs or maybe someone like Hazare.
Very unusual career , His away average was almost double his home average , also he scored 11 Test hundreds but never hit a 150+ score ..I think he's the greatest batsman never to score a 150.Amarnath. India's only away bully.
Would Switch Sobers and Viv for WI and most likely Sutcliffe and Headley surely above Chappell.You could pretty much say that with Australia and almost every other test nation. Which is disturbing. Let's have a look since I have no life and I'm bored:

Steve Smith's last three-four years will determine where he will end up. If he ends with a 55/56 average vs. a 58/59 one it does make a difference.Steve Smith being greater than Gavaskar, Hutton and Sobers is pretty contentious. Agree with the rest.
*Cries in Rahane*Amarnath. India's only away bully.
There was a poll recently where Smith absolutely destroyed Viv and most usually have Viv in their top 5, therefore I just assumed he'd also be considered above the likes of Hutton and Sunil. And I did put ">/=" in regards to him vs Sobers.Steve Smith being greater than Gavaskar, Hutton and Sobers is pretty contentious. Agree with the rest.
Does it really matter who the 5th best indian battery is? They aren't likely better than Sir Allan. As for Border being better than Clyde and Ken, that's fair.Underrating Border massively. He's better than Barrington and Walcott. Azharuddin is also a very questionable pick as India's 5th best batsman. That's either sehwag or Vvs or maybe someone like Hazare.
Expect his away average to drop from here. Most of the bowling on the circuit being rather hapless in Australia should help overall.Steve Smith's last three-four years will determine where he will end up. If he ends with a 55/56 average vs. a 58/59 one it does make a difference.
Viv is a superior player to Smith. If he cared for records, he'd have held them all.There was a poll recently where Smith absolutely destroyed Viv and most usually have Viv in their top 5, therefore I just assumed he'd also be considered above the likes of Hutton and Sunil. Well then he should have cared for records so we don't have to debate.Viv is a superior player to Smith. If he cared for records, he'd have held them all.
A deeper understanding of the game exists that looks beyond records. Viv was a genius, like Lara or Akram. Stats tell only part of the story. Many average more than Viv but his impact is reflected in his peer review/expert opinion.Well then he should have cared for records so we don't have to debate.
this will be repeated verbatim by the kids who grew up in the last decade watching de Villiers smash it for RCB and South AfricaA deeper understanding of the game exists that looks beyond records.
