Just a mediocre team bully. He has better economy but it's not everything. Starc is a wicket taker which matters a lot.

Lol where was josh in the world cupJosh.
He is not at all overrated. He is a beast. Fastest to 200 wickets, 9fifers in just 110 games or so. If we have more ODI now, he would have already crossed 300 wickets landmark. He was the highest wicket taker in both the world cup and won the world cup for Aus. Has 3 fifers in world cup. He is underrated a bit and always criticized for leaking runs but never appreciated for striking at 25 which is Insane. Both Mcgrath and Starc are on par. I think odi cricket has changed a lot and if Mcgrath played in todays era he would have also been bashed. His death bowling is still a question, he was not someone like wasim or garner with yorkers. I think in today's era he would have more like cummins in odi, good accurate with new ball and mediocre with old ball.Starc is overrated a bit. McGrath is the best.

He averages high against SA, Eng and India, three of the best LOI teams. He bullies lesser teams plus NZ more but can get spanked against stronger lineups. He is not at all overrated. He is a beast. An average of 30 against these three nation is more than good in today's era when odi is predominantly a batsman game where 350 isn't a safe score. Plus his average is due to 1 poor series in 2020 against india and a poor 2018 series against Eng. McGrath economy rate is good because at that time 250 score was considered a good score. How many bowlers today has an economy of 5 in odi. Few. So starc economy is good plus his strike rate is the best ever. No one has an economy less than 4.5 in odi cricket so I think starc has done well. Curtly Ambrose and Shaun pollock has er better than mcgrath. That time economy rate of 3.5- 4 was common for great fast bowlers. Plus I don't think In today's era mcgrath would been a good odi bowler. He would been a brilliant test match bowler due to his accuracy and seam but in odi his good length tactics wouldn't have worked. He averages high against SA, Eng and India, three of the best LOI teams. McGrath has a virtually perfect record against and in every country. Remarkable. Also ER is far more important in LOI. A guy like McGrath with an excellent ER and SR is gold.
McGrath played plenty in the 2000s when pitches were flatter and hitting was common but kept his great record. An average of 30 against these three nation is more than good in today's era when odi is predominantly a batsman game where 350 isn't a safe score. He played before the advent of T20s and cricket totally changed after. Run scoring became a lot quicker with T20s around even in odis. If he was playing in this gen his economy would be same as that of Cummins.McGrath played plenty in the 2000s when pitches were flatter and hitting was common but kept his great record.
And I disagree with 30 plus being a sufficient average for Starc. It shows he can't maintain his bowling standards against tougher opposition.
We don't know how he would have adapted but he is still comfortably ahead of Starc as it is for us to assume he is the greatest of all timeHe played before the advent of T20s and cricket totally changed after.
