Should cricket aspire to be a 'global game' or not?

I think the Netherlands could be a truly quality side in the future if they start introducing it into their summer sport curriculum nationally. And if they get good, Germany, Italy etc may follow suit.

To be honest, the weather/pitches potential in Europe is unreal (much better than in England) and they just need to get over the fact that it's an 'English' sport and just adopt it I think so many countries could be really good

I'd love to see it

BD are an abomination of a team. That singular fluke win is akin to clutching at straws.
They are definitely progressing since being awarded Test Status..

Tamim Iqbal , Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim would be good enough to earn caps for any of the Test playing nations , Liton Das and Mehedy Hasan Miraz aswell .. At home they are a tough proposition for anyone taken wins off Australia, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka etc.

And their ODI form has been superb aswell in the ODI super league it was Bangladesh that finished 3rd finishing ahead of Australia , India ,Pakistan etc

Not sayings it’s impossible however it would require enormous cultural change in the Netherlands. Aside from the ubiquitous football, hockey and korfball are huge mass participation sports. Cricket is tiny by comparison.

I think if you want to advocate for restrictions based on feelings of elitism you can **** right off cricket. Fake ass fans.

It should aspire to grow as much as it can. Whether that means 'global' or not depends on its inherent limitations and how successful it can be in that aspiration, but we certainly shouldn't just satisfy ourselves with the current lot and forget about it. New teams are almost always minnows to begin with.

Lets be honest. Cricket spread via the British empire, aka colonisation. The only way for it to spread further would be the same thing, except done by India instead (which is sort of happening if you look at cricket in america or europe).

they are all indoor/winter sports though. Cricket can do well because it's a summer sport. It would need to start in private schools, universities, and clubs, perhaps if English/Asian expats go and set it up, it's all grass roots...

While I have my reservations as to whether it is possible, I actually think that top down is the best way to give the sport a boost. If we consider women’s sport in England, whether football, rugby or cricket, it is its being on mainstream tv in the last few year and, even in a fractured media environment, rather rammed down people’s throats and into their consciousness that has given it a boost. I suspect (though do not know for sure) that this in turn boosts grass root participation.

I always think that although I don't love the standard of cricket (I don't watch 2nd XI First Class games either), I would happily go to watch the women play if the missus wanted to go watch or something. It's still a good day out anyway.
