Good on him hanging in there for that double.

The last 3 batsmen to convert their miaden test century into a double-century,

Shakeel, Tage, Mayers(?)

All left-handed.
Labuschagne got a double hundred in November last year vs West Indies ..so did Steven Smith ..

Kusal Mendis and Nishan Madushka got doubles for Sri Lanka vs Ireland in April they were the last ones before today ..
All right handers

Kane Williamson also got a double in March this year vs Sri Lanka .Also a Right Hander ..

Man double hundreds are being scored so frequently!

My post specifically mentioned, maiden test century into a double -century.
Oh sorry mate I was confused with your statement because it's also factually incorrect..

Saud Shakeel's maiden test century was a 125 not out vs New Zealand not a double hundred today,
and Nishan Madushka's maiden test hundred was turned into a double hundred vs Ireland in April and he's a right hander .

has anyone realised how difficult batting is in this era? Back then 300 individual scores hapenned here and there….but now 200ish is usually the max and it barely happens too

Any singular match isn't an argument against a general statement which holds true.
India and Australia are definitely among the top teams but there is no need to be a dick about it , they are still capable of losing to anyone ..
NZ was the team that won the first World Test Championship which was only 2 years ago , things can change in cricket very quickly .

Lanka's batting is pretty decent. Karunatne is gun at home, Madushanka looks a good prospect, Mathews is world class, Chandimal's built up a repertoire of some great innings himself along with a very good average, and DDS has been as good a #6 most non-ATG sides can hope to have. It's very rare to have a #6 that averages over 40. DDS has done that since moving up the order and should get there overall soon. Mendis is a disappointment but alas. Had high hopes for him but he seems intent on being a waste man. That said, he's not exactly a passenger either. The pace attack leaves a lot to be desired but they never run out of quality spinners, like every SL side since the 90s.
