Is Ashwin an ATG spinner / player?

Can we acknowledge Ashwin as an ATG on the pure strength of numbers. He has a couple holes in his record, so did Warne and Murali (not saying he’s quite in that league but he’s way ahead of Kumble and pretty much any other contemporary).
Still no. Kumble is a better bowler.

Do you have any statistical or evidentiary basis for this, or just another wild stab in the dark.
Kumble has a better record in SENA in terms of actual match impact. Not saying his record is great there but at least he has stepped up to the plate more often than Ashwin.

Ashwin has played nearly 100 games without taking a fifer there which speaks of how diminished a threat he is outside his comfy conditions. You can call it trivial if you want but nobody would call a batsman who hasn't scored a ton in these conditions a great.

He is a master in spinning conditions and against weak batting lineups.

this is the kind of checklist by stats posting that should get derided and mocked at rightfully by everyone else

Why is it a problem when Spinners win games in spinning conditions ? Bowler's job is to help win games and very few bowlers have helped India win games as much as Ashwin has does. Trust me when Ashwin retires you are going to miss him big time it's not easy to replicate his record .

You are asking a camel to swim. Sena boards prepare pitches with zero spin assistance when Ashwin and Jadeja tour. This can be seen from the performances of opposition spinners on the same pitches. You know this well too but just want to argue for the sake of it.

Yup he will be missed at home and in WI, SL.

It isn't. No ATG gets dropped by his team willy nilly when he goes overseas. His own captains don't even think he is that great.

Cummins got just 3 wickets in 2 matches in India in the recent test series. That doesn't suddenly make him a bad bowler because the pitches were so tuned to spin.
Cummins was going through a lot of offfield issues so I don't judge him that harshly on that.

Cry me a river. Kumble also faced a lot of dour pitches when he toured.
