Is Ashwin an ATG spinner / player?

it’s quite cringe how far up he’s putting his tongue into the indian market’s butt
Still, his fake crying after the sandpapergate was the cringiest thing he has done so far.

Also, he is smart, knows where the money is, keeping himself relevant to the Indian audience has its own share of perks. Ask Brett Lee, in his defence though he didn't have to use tiktok  , people have always liked him here.

"One thing as a coach, let me tell you... my job out there is not to butter everyone's toast," Shastri said. "My job is, without agenda, to state facts and say the way it is. Ashwin didn't play the Test match in Sydney. Kuldeep played, took a five-for, and bowled brilliantly. So, it was only fair that I give the young kid who is probably playing his first or second Test match overseas...and he bowled magnificently in that Test match. He bowled as well as any spinner overseas in that Test match. So, I said the way he's bowled here, there's every chance he could be India's No.1 [spin] bowler overseas.

"Now if that hurt some other player, then I would say good. In hindsight, I'm glad I made that statement and Ashwin has made this statement because if it hurt him and he was upset, I'm glad the way he went about his job. I'm the kind of coach who will want a player to go inside and say 'I'm going to show his coach I'm going to teach him a lesson and show him what I'm all about'.

"So, if it upset him, I'm very happy. If it made him do something different, which he did, I'm very happy because the way he was bowling in 2019 and the way he bowled in 2021 in Australia was chalk and cheese. I'll go for the cheese any day. And by the way being thrown under the bus, Ash need not worry because I'd already spoken to the bus driver and told him to stop two feet short."

Indian Cricket will miss Ravi Shastri as Coach. I have huge doubt whether Dravid will be able to match his achievements in Test.

The worry is not that Shastri was that good. I am more worried coz we have seen Dravid #galaxybrain way too much in his captaincy stints across RCB, India and even RR. As long as he does not push his "out there" theories too much, he can be an excellent man manager and let the team do well that way, which would align perfectly with Virat's captaincy style.

Rohit, I feel, needs HUGE amounts of backroom support, so gotta see how that plays out.

Didn't really hear any sharp insights from Shastri aside from being a Kohli cheerleader.
You should read Bharat Arun's interviews after the Australia series. He was the one who was looking at footage of the Australian batsmen months before the series, particularly Smith and wanted them to find a way to dry up his runs on the offside. It disrupted his rhythm throught the series, Labuschagnes too.

True, Shastri was the one who suggested that he wants to block the off-side for the Aussies(which is their preferred scoring area).

Surely all the people using Ashwin staff interviews to minimise Rahane’s role must also use the same team interviews and talks to recognise that Rahane’s century is considered one of the most important centuries in Indian cricket history, a captain’s knock which was the bedrock part India’s win in Australia and as per Ashwin and the staff scored in some of the most challenging batting conditions they’ve ever seen.

and by the same token also realize he has failed in every other situation before and since?

It's rare seeing cricketers participating in 100% of the game.

Even when India was batting, the dude was on the laptop and chatting up with the analysts.
He is a nerd.
