Won't be sold on Rew until he does it again next year. Hameed had a similar debut season, played for England, and then had a catastrophic collapse. I still rate Hameed but not as the next Alastair Cook which many predicted at the time.

History is replete with young batsmen who have come in, had big first years and then tailed off. Hope Rew doesn't, but there's still that risk.

You are right in your only as good as your form. Many one season wonders in lots of sports.

However if you look at in depth he's on another level to Hameed so far IMO.

Hameed scored 1198 at 49.91 from 27 knocks, with 4 tons and 7 half centuries with a 39 SR. High score of 122.

Hameed did get an injury and for a young player with loads of pressure put on him after his test performances.

You could tell he was a bit rabbit in the headlights type personality and probably put into that environment too soon to deal with that, plus his very slow scoring rate. Was probably always going to end in somewhat fall from grace once he came back.

I've not seen Rew play but just following the game yesterday showed he's already got gears to his game with his partnership with Bess and Bashar. That properly nurtured can only get better. Was funny after I was commenting on his SR of 48 and England not being interested as not Bazball enough.

He's already equalled the most centuries for a teenager in CC. All while averaging 70 odd, just shy of 1000 runs top of the runs, while batting at 6. Still got 5 games to go as well. Usually the top run scorers in CC bat top 3.

He's also 200+ runs ahead of most players in both divisions, 300+ in Division 1

Hameed was 5th in the runs in 2016. Keaton Jennings was the stand out player that year.

The player he's level with for centuries as teenager in CC is Dan Lawrence(who scored his in Division two for Essex averaging 40 odd in that time)

I only saw Hameed play once before his injury and he was impressive on a low bouncing pitch in India

Unfortunately, his technique is not conducive to dealing with bounce and the English selectors did him no favours by bringing him back prematurely

it’s weird as I’m about 15 mins from the ground and it’s absolutely hammering down with rain but appears to have bypassed CLS

hopefully it will stay that way and we can get a few wickets as it’s humid and CLS always swings in those conditions

Totally agree. Crazy. They loan in Moriarty and so Bess asks to go out on loan first to Warwickshire then Somerset. If Bess is fit, the ECB should not have approved the Moriarty deal.
