The 05 series was great cricket between 2 extremely good sides. This series is 2 average sides making lots of errors producing tight matches

I think I'd more describe is at 2 good sides playing average cricket. Certain batsmen are well below their normal standards whilst the general level of fielding has been atrocious by one side and below average by the other.

It's the truth. That England side was a fine team but overall Cummins' side is more quality across conditions.

But Vaughn's England only beat that 2005 side because McGrath was unfit/absent. Inconvenient fact.

Yeah but only when McGrath got injured.
The full strength 2005 team beat England comfortably in the 1st test and would have won the series comfortably as well had McGrath not tripped.

The quality of cricket in 2005 was just about as good as it gets......this series doesn't come remotely close in that regard.
That said though......if this is 2-2 going into the Oval and that 5th test goes down to the wire.........then fmd this will certainly be one for the ages.
