Yes we are going to lose the Ashes and that sucks but looking long term the future is looking a bit brighter than it was before Stokes became captain. Yes we will soon lose Anderson, Broad, Wood, Woakes etc... but Robinson, Tongue and Potts is something to work with and Duckett has proved the winter wasn't a fluke.

Clearly the Pope shoulder is a worry as is Stokes knee but most of the batting has years left in them and hopefully we pick Foakes again and stick with him.

Tactics and missed chances have let us down this summer and probably will in India too.

Not be much longer for stokes, root and bairstow

I don’t share your optimism for the future as I see very little in county cricket that has potential to be top test quality

Woakes & Wood have been excellent. I wonder which bowlers are going to be picked for England, for the 4th Test. Is Anderson gonna come back ? For Broad, who's played all 3 matches ? But Broad has been excellent too... Tongue might have a go ?
I feel Bairstow is batting too low... One solution would be dropping one batter. Mmmh, I wonder who that might be :) Have Stokes to open with Duckett :)
And, I beg you. Foakes has to be there...

Duckett,
Stokes,
Pope/Lawrence
Root
Brook
Bairstow
Foakes,
Woakes,
Ali,
Wood,
Tongue

If the fourth was anywhere but OT I'd say I couldn't see Jimmeh coming back, but as it is...

Not sure Mo has done enough to justify the love, either. Can't see us going in without a specialist twirler so Anderson for Robinson might be the only change we see.

Pope's out for the whole series, isnt he?
I know Crawley was Public Enemy Number 1 at the start of the series, but I'd tentatively suggest that he's done enough to stay. Just.
Tongue vs Anderson is such a tough call. I've changed my mind about four times in the last ten minutes.
And I don't see any reason to drop Broad.

Leading wicket taker on either side, so he'd probably explode if he was dropped now.

I didn't realise that. Good effort to take more wickets than Cummins to date. The other thing about Broad is that he won't need resting from a test match that is ten days away. Maybe if they were playing three back-to-back tests, but they aren't. Perhaps Nicky was just having one of those moments that we all have from time to time when we inexplicably forget about someone.

I said I had enough of the series, and we won, after flouncing out of that forum, I am duty bound to not post again, but this thread is not there, so it's not cheating really.

Harsh on Tongue, but one change for me Anderson for Robinson, l am happy for Ali to play 3, risk worth taking imho. OT takes spin often, particularly for a spinner that gets bounce.

I think it unlikely Wood will play 3 in a row, with Ot and Oval to come you'd love him too, but we will see.

Sounds like you and I would pick the same XI. Can’t see any other change being justified personally.

I think last time it was 20 catches dropped in India

Who do you think is going to India?
Spin - Leach, Ahmed, Jacks
Wicket-keeper - Foakes
Fast Bowlers - Anderson, Wood, Archer, Stone, Tongue
Batsmen - Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Stokes, Bairstow, Lawrence

Maybe Hameed and Jennings for Pope and Crawley

Archer won't go. Robinson will and I wouldn't write off Potts for Stone. The batting looks like it is settled, maybe Jennings to go given his good record in Asia. Obviously Pope and Stokes are fitness concerns.

His side looked about right but the Archer selection was interesting. I'd imagine he's got to recover and then decide on whether he wants to keep playing all formats. Given he broke down in a T20 tournament I can't see the selectors picking him as a test or even odi option for the time being.

I wondered about this going forward. I would have said that the Spin bowling looks right, although a back injury might not be an easy thing for Leach to come back from early next year.

I would be shocked if Archer ever does anything more than t20 going forward. Anderson will probably get selected but I wouldn't be shocked if India decide to smack him to kingdom come and that will be that for him. So for me probably Robinson should be in the squad, not least because of what he did in Pakistan last winter. As for the batting, I can't see anything much outside there although I don't know if Duckett has improved his play versus spin.

Duckett
Crawley
Stokes
Root
Brook
Bairstow
Dawson
Ahmed
Robinson
Wood
Leach

Pope
Foakes
Woakes
Tongue
Anderson
Lawrence as a 17th but I'd rather it was someone off the back of a good FC season

I think Jacks will go ahead of Dawson, rightly or wrongly, wouldn't be shocked if he batted 3.

I think you're right, much more likely they will go with batting all rounders with Leach - Livingstone was a curveball pick last time (might've got injured batting iirc). Maybe Critchley at Essex will be a punt. I'd want two genuine spinners against this batting lineup.

Do we have 2 genuine spinners that will trouble Indian bats, some may say do we have one, Leach's injuries could easily start catching up with him..

jacks has had a bad county season with the ball. dawson is a no brainer pick to india. Maybe Will Jacks can play at no.7 if Stokes still doesnt want to bowl.
