He has been smashing spinners in the IPL too mate. And Root is hardly a top class spinner. When you are in the mood to slog, its easy to line up blokes like Root. It was just an overconfident and lazy decision.
No, he hasn't. He averages 20 @150 vs pace in t20 and 11 at a Sr of 90 vs spin. If you think going at under run a ball vs spin is smashing it that's on you.

Root was getting a ton of help from the pitch and had just got Carey who had spent plenty of time before that trying and failing to hit Root. Cummins is a right hander tbf, so Root was always going to struggle more vs him. But it's really not that bad a call.

"I wouldn't want to win a game like that," Australian quick Cummins said in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

"It didn't really sit well with me ... it was a pretty bad look.

"If a batsman is trying to steal a run you can kind of understand but I didn't think Jos was doing anything untoward."

- Our beloved Pat's reaction to Ashwin Mankading Jos.
Mankading is a pre-determined action, unlike this and completely different.

I don’t think it matters that Carey threw it immediately, that doesn’t mean it’s fine and he should be out! I have no problem with what Carey did, keepers do it all the time without thinking.

I just think once it’s played out the way it did it needed the skipper to say ‘hang on I don’t think feels right’ and retract the appeal. That would’ve been a huge call by Cummins and he needed the experienced men to give him some clarity on the right thing to do. Lot of pressure on the skipper and I’m not sure he’d have received any helpful advice from Smith or Warner on the spirit of cricket.
lol trying to blame Smith and Warner somehow. This isn’t backyard cricket. This is test cricket at the highest level and you’re kidding yourself if you think any of the great captains would call that back.

I don't think there's many fans on here that would be 100% happy if one of their batsmen was dismissed like YJB.

I don't think there's many fans on here who would withdraw their appeal if they dismissed a batsmen in that way.

It was a cheap shot bringing up Smith and Warner but when you cheat as they did, that's what you get.

ftr I think all forms of shining the ball should be banned tbh. Its just not cricket.

But yeah Smith and Warner totally unrelated to this lol. Last gasp of a desperate man.

They are blowing it out of proportion in the media I see. Probably to shadow the fact that they have played horrible cricket for the most part of the game
Yeah, Australia played the better cricket for at least 3 and a half of the 5 days. If Stokes brought it home, it would have been amazing, but not a true reflection of most of the match.

But if Carey had missed the stumps and England had a chance of an overthrow they’d have taken it. So they all become massive hypocrites

The Bairstow dismissal is irrelevant and shouldn’t overshadow how bad England have been
Yeah good point

It was pre determined though. Cummins said Carey saw Jonny doing it multiple times.

If he’d thrown it any later the ball was probably dead. It was great keeping. Jonny is completely at fault.

Cummins could have withdrawn the appeal but why should he.

Aus need to get their bowling right.

They should stick to the basics - target the corridor outside the off stump instead of just bowling short and waiting for a mis-timed shot.

very much this

Carey saw him walking out every ball before and on the last ball he threw it asap after he got it. keepers have randomly tossed the ball on to the stumps before and either missed for overthrow runs or it hit the stumps and they still ran. it happens more commonly in lower level cricket and doesn’t happen at higher levels because most batsmen aren’t dumb shits like Bairstow. either the people opposing it have never player cricket or didn’t watch the dismissal properly

one thing for sure this England team has learned the arts of great football managers to deflect the heat after a loss by blaming other things and saying they provided entertainment

A bit of respect lost for these Aussies yesterday and today. Bleating, inanely, about a catch that clearly wasn’t, then maintaining an appeal like that to dismiss Bairstow. Bit of a pity. Not saying England would have done any differently, though you’d hope they, or any team, would have.

Regardless, another deserved win by a really good team, and another great match.

Stokes’ innings was insane.
