There is something in that though. The fielding has been abysmal, not just technically with the catches dropped but in not chasing after the ball to prevent 2s etc. Lack of batting and bowling quality is one thing but to be outfielded by Nepal, the USA and the Netherlands is another.

This generation of players are not good enough to succeed without giving it their all. I'm sick of them, a big reset is needed and I can't wait for them to get started. I eagerly await Sammy's first squad that he helps pick .

Srilanka and Zimbabwe are both almost through now with the 4 points and a good NRR. They have to mess up big time in the super sixes to not qualify, which I don't think will happen.

They have second chance as 14 more matches still to be play

Vs Scotland
Vs oman
Vs Srilanka

All 3 Westindies need to win with good Fielding / Batting & Bowling
West Indies bowling is found wanting. They couldn't even defend 375. They still can win over Scots and Oman but SL will be tough. And even with 6 points from 3 wins, they may not qualify.

As Sri Lankan fans we are watching how it unfolds. For us, to accept our team as remotely good, they have to annihilate all these sides - to team's credit, which they have done up to now - including Zim and WI. Then only we could think of being competitive against better sides.

Disagree. Quality of cricket at the second level has gone up now. Annihilation of minnows is not a by-gone conclusion now. As long as they can win all of the matches in the qualifiers, it is good enough for them to show up as a team that can win the main world cup too.

Si Lankan teams of late 90s and 00s will still make them look like utter minnows. We need a team as half as good as that.
