English Domestic Season 2023

kevinw

State Captain
We had 3 Wicket Keepers here, Billings decided his focus was Kent this year so as club captain, that pretty much tied that position down. Robbo wanted to be first choice WK so unfortunately for us that meant him moving on.

It wasn’t a popular decision at the time and even less so now, especially when you compare the form of Robbo and Billings this season.
Gutted, given that Bilbo seems to play when he feels like it and OR is clearly going to be Jamie Smith's rival for the England gloves over the next 5y.

Apparently after Mitchell's hat trick ball was an almost perfect yorker which Abbott only just kept out the Radio London commentator said a long hop would have been the ideal ball.

Can't win a game in a session but you can certainly lose one. Two catches dropped in that last 130 run partnership as well a lead lost and fielders looked down and out. Surprised more wickets weren't lost.

George Davidson's record score of 274 back in 1896 v Lancashire at Manchester under threat I reckon.

Maybe even Kent can't lose from their current situation. First CC ton for the talented Muyeye, who's starting to find himself at this level.
I thought Kent were far from terrible against Surrey the other week, playing well enough to set the leaders 501 in the 4th innings. This probably sounds odd, as Surrey chased it down fairly easily, but I actually thought Kent's bowling looked stronger than 12 months ago. And the middle order was combative enough to rescue the innings when the top order failed. As you say, Muyeye looks a real talent.

Surrey are just a joke at this point.
Yesterday, one of my mates regularly described Surrey as the Man City of the CC, on the basis that we 'always find a way'. Now he's a Liverpool fan, so you can forgive him for being bitter. He's also a Somerset fan, so ditto. I suppose the 130 run last wicket partnership was a case in point, although that initially owed a lot to Abbott twice being dropped before he'd made many, and subsequently Jennings slightly losing the plot once the two batsmen had started to flourish. Actually their bowling at the end of the day was another case in point. After Bohannan and Wells had added enough to bring their side close to parity, Worrall and Abbott noticeably cranked up the pace for their second spells, the former doing Bohannan with an unexpected bouncer, and the latter's quicker delivery forcing Wells to cut the ball finer than he had intended. But naturally I don't really agree with my mate anyway.

EDIT
And Sibley's just gone cheaply in our chase of 208 in overcast conditions, so this one's a long way from done and dusted.
Oh, and there goes Latham first ball. Not the greatest signing so far, despite his great catch yesterday. And now Smith's decided to leave a straight one. One more tonight and Lancashire are big favourites. And there it is; a horrible nothing shot from Foakes to give Bailey his fourth in this spell.

I must admit to having never heard of Jack Blatherwick before this match, but he's bowled really well at times. Unlucky not to remove Burns with the first ball he sent down, but no mistake a few deliveries later. I'm not sure I'd blame the batsman for that one at all. Hmm, night watchman with four overs to go, and Lawes's batting has been a non-event this season. This could get really messy now.
