Rahane has been in decline since 2017. Pujara has been in decline since 2019. And Virat has been in decline since 2021. Now looks like Rohit has joined them to keep the odd year tradition going.

I honestly think we should try new players at least in the Windies. In fact, BCCI should look at possibility of adding one more test even if it means pre-poning the tour by a week. 3 tests with a mostly young side should be a good way to start the new cycle.

Rohit
Jaiswal
Gill
Virat
Sarfraz (??)
Kishan
Jaddu
Ash
Shardul
Shami
Siraj

with Umesh, Unadkat, Axar, Ruturaj, Bharat, SKY as backups. In fact, I will select Samson as the backup keeper ahead of Bharat. He played 5 tests and it seems obvious what his ceiling is both as a keeper and as a batsman.
Well at least you're not picking six bowlers anymore. It's a start.

Still India for me. If either Australia or England win the ashes "decisively", it'll probably be whichever team wins.

can’t be India when Pant and Bumrah aren’t there. different story with them in but when will they ever come back if at all

Well I'm assuming teams with their first choice players. But even then, had these finals been played in conditions more favorable to India say in Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, India probably could've won....Just my 0.02

Even without the results of the remaining tests, I'll give the mantle to Australia. Competitive in India and Sri Lanka, winners in Pakistan, would crush all at home except India. They're more competitive in England than England could dream to be down under, and Australia start off as heavy favorites away to all the other teams RSA maybe excepted....

Yes, it is Australia right now and I do think India has waned a bit with the weak batting line-up. Australia right now have a strong batting order and a very good bowling line-up too. Carey and Green are giving good balance as well.

Yeah I don't think Australia are as good as India were before their middle order fell away but a combination of that decline and Head and Khawaja improving Australia's batting means Australia are the best right now IMO.

I'll still think that even if they go onto to lose this series unless they get absolutely pounded 4-1 or something.

I've changed my vote. Even though I think India is still the most "well rounded" of the 3 to compete in all conditions.

I will now go for Australia by a margin, as they've shown an impressive amount of bottle in difficult / high pressure matches of late.

I knew they had this sort of potential in them to be the top side in World Test Cricket. It will be cemented in even shorter order though than I expected, with an Ashes series win in England.
