Is it not more simple in that they've now met in 3 of the last 4 ECFs? Familiarity breeds contempt. Although with all 3 winners of those matchups failing in the Finals, the rivalry doesn't quite reach Pistons-Bulls from the later 80s/early 90s.

It's not going to get them over the hump (IMO) but with the changes coming in the CBA it was definitely the right move for them to make. Once the league year ticks over they wouldn't have been able to add anyone half as good as Beal, may as well do it. They weren't getting Lillard so it's literally the best they could add.
