Early Fidel got it up to 157kph but was obsessed with short pitched bowling even in helpful conditions. He got better but those early days really screwed his test stats.Fidel Edwards was a nightmare
This was such a surprise to me. Never heard about Fidel. And in his first test he took a five wicket haul I thinkEarly Fidel got it up to 157kph but was obsessed with short pitched bowling even in helpful conditions. He got better but those early days really screwed his test stats.
He was pulled into the test side after Lara saw him in the nets, so has no FC cricket to develop cricket smarts.
I had dinner with Gordon Greenidge (ok it's not quite JBMAC "I played with and against him") and asked him which English bowlers he rated from his era. He found that a hard question to answer (!) but eventually came up with Greg Thomas.England had a bowler named Greg Thomas in the mid 80’s who played a handful of Tests. He was generally quick and sprayed it around pretty much his entire career.
I really don't understand why when a young fast bowlers feel themselves a bit they develop an insatiable appetite to get the batsman ducking and weaving rather than attacking the stumps. I see it at my club level too. Are fast bowlers really thick in the head?Early Fidel got it up to 157kph but was obsessed with short pitched bowling even in helpful conditions. I imagine the power trip and bloodlust when you realise the clubbie down the other end is literally at your mercy must be very hard to resist.I really don't understand why when a young fast bowlers feel themselves a bit they develop an insatiable appetite to get the batsman ducking and weaving rather than attacking the stumps. If you don't know the answer you're probably illiterate (which makes this comment superfluous).Did anyone mention Shaun Tait yet?
My memory of him is being leader of probably the most ordinary West Indian test match pace bowling unit of all time. A real low watermark guy who thrived at county level but could not step up to the highest stage.Never impressed at Lancs. Possibly one of their worst signings. Was released early from his kolpak contract.
