*Official* Blast 2023

No thread for this yet.

A horrid one sided affair last night at Taunton currently being repeated it would seem at OT. Lancs look a strong outfit (Salt, Livingstone, CdG, Mitchell, Mahmood, Wood, Parkinson etc), Leics do not. Not sure why a game is starting at 12.30pm on a Thursday (understand there's a women's match following but even so).

Who knows who wins this year? Hoping for a strong run from Sussex this time.

Next match: Middlesex v Surrey

Middlesex Squad: Pieter Malan, John Simpson(w), Stephen Eskinazi(c), Joe Cracknell, Jack Davies, Martin Andersson, Max Holden, Luke Hollman, Tom Helm, Ryan Higgins, Toby Roland-Jones, Blake Cullen, Thilan Walallawita

Surrey Squad: Jason Roy, Laurie Evans, Will Jacks, Jordan Clark, Cameron Steel, Sam Curran(c), Jamie Smith(w), Jamie Overton, Sunil Narine, Tom Curran, Gus Atkinson, Daniel Moriarty, Tom Lawes, Daniel Worrall, Sean Abbott

That's a very strong squad too, especially with skipper Jordan still to return from the IPL too.

At least it's not 12 v 12 like the IPL. I hate that and also no time outs. Looking forward to this game.

Roy misses the Surrey game as he's done his ankle in the warm up.

Been quite a controversial day for him.

Surrey playing NINE bowlers today (Evans and Smith the non bowlers though I gather Joverton is batting only). Top four of Jacks, Narine, then the two Curran's!

Which soon became 99 all out. Is Buttler going to be available for Lancs too? That's some serious outfit if so.
Buttler is down to play all games from 1st June. That's 10 of the 14 games, more if they qualify. Not playing any of the championship matches in June and July which have been fiddled in between Blast games. Gives him a bit more rest time!

It did seem a bit odd that Evans and Smith were left in the hutch whilst the Currans went out before them, but it worked. Not sure it's a long term winning strategy though. There are better teams than Middlesex out there.

Speaking of which, Lancs would have to be my favourites. The question is where do they fit Buttler in, because Luke Wells is not an obvious player to drop given his more than handy spin option and Croft is such a reliable stalwart. 6 England T20 players plus 2 Kiwis in their likely best XI.

Sam has been batting top order in the blast for a while tbf. Asked Surrey for the responsibility for ages and they gave it to him last season. Batted 3/4 basically the whole time he played last blast and hundred.

Yeah, his batting keeps on improving as shown with his maiden FC ton last summer. It's funny he's so far down the pecking order now for the Test team because his batting is actually making him become the ideal 4th seamer option slotting at 7.

Of the side which played against Leicestershire, George Bell would be the favourite to make way - except in terms of the Members who would probably prefer to keep the home grown youngster in at the expense of the London based England Captain.
