Josh Hazlewood

halba

International 12th Man
Before side strain, then achilles, now a side strain again

Side strains have blighted Hazlewood during each of the past two home summers, causing him to miss four of five Ashes Tests in 2021-22 and three of five matches against West Indies and South Africa last summer.

Poor guy, hes a nice bloke, but cant catch a break. Similar to Jhye. Both are world class bowlers when fully fit, some of the best australia has ever produced.

I love Hazlewood but he should never play another Test unless he proves his fitness in a FC game. Scratch him until next Shield season.

Yep, if hes sore with 3 overs in T20, then how is he going to play tests? on flat decks, fast bowlers need to bowl up to 45-50 overs in 2 innings.

Looks like we'll be seeing a lot of Boland and Neser in the WTC/Ashes

I think he used to get a few side strains when he was younger too. Obviously won’t risk him unless he’s 100%. Fortunately we have the best pace attack quality going around so we’ll just bring another bloke who would otherwise be first picked for every other nation

20 wickets at 22 in 2019 from 4 Tests, right up there with Cummins' figures. He'll be a big loss. I admire Burgey's faith that a fella with no experience of bowling in England will suddenly provide like for like performances.

This no experience in England thing needs to stop. How many Aussie pacers have come to England and had great results in their first series...so many ?

I admire Molehill's faith that a batting line up with no success facing actual test standard bowlers on anything other than feather beds will somehow produce decent output against a real attack.

Mcgrath, did he play any county first Ashes dig(which was massive Ashes debut in the late 90s)? He didnt at that time, from memory, so there you go..He played county probably later on.So its usually about just being a good bowler , more than anything else(dukes/kookaburra etc)

Kin el halba!!! Settle down there mate......if your gonna use Glenn "goat overseas bowler in England" McGrath as your yardstick, that might be a bit rough on any newbies like Nesser that might play a part.

hehe. an 'extreme' example i agree. Boland should do ok in england conditions. he's got a good skill set. Australia's attack is basically set. Thankfully no major injuries apart from Hazlewood's ongoing issues.

There's a lot of faith being shown in a 34 year old who has played just 7 Tests and yet to take a wicket overseas. But yeah, comparing him to the one of the greatest seamers of all time seems fair enough. :-O

Just offf the top of my head Alderman, Lillee, Massie, Davo, McKenzie, Lawson, McDermott, Hughes, Reiffel, McGrath, Gillespie, Hazlewood and Cummins are all examples of Australian pace bowlers who performed decently-to-very well on dayboo in England. Principally because historically if you could deviate it here you'd move it more there and cause conniptions.

But when they do, they're normally outstanding bowlers who had great Test careers, not journeymen (an ironic name for Boland I've just realised) finding a bit of form at the end of theirs.

In 2019, Australia played Siddle in 3 Tests who took 7 wickets at 42. That's what I imagine Neser achieving if he plays. So much of this attack rests on Cummins, especially with Hazlewood now out.

If it was their first trip to England they may not of been outstanding bowlers who had great test careers yet. Please look up the word hindsight and get back to us ?

Haha....all of this talk is such utter BS but it's such a part of an Ashes series you can't help but love and get sucked into it.

The dick measuring will continue until the first test and only then will we get a feel for who's packing the heat :naughty:

In 2019, Australia played Siddle at The Oval because the rest of the available bowlers were all still hung over after the fourth test and despite every knowledgeable Australian fan knowing he was **** to begin with.
indeed

I'm guessing Cummins, Starc, Boland/Neser will be much younger and much better than Anderson, Broad and who's left standing ?
