What happened to big spinners of the ball?

In 90s and 00s we saw some pretty massive spinners of the ball. Warne and Murali spun it miles and were very accurate too. Stu MacGill, Upul Chandana, Rajesh Chauhan, Greame Swann and Ramesh Powar all spun it pretty hard. Before that Qadir spun it quite a bit.

Out of current crop only Ashwin is capable of it.

What happened to all those spinners who spun it hard?

Firstly, Taijul Islam...your conventional SLA. Better spinner than Shakib.

And then there is Mehidy Hasan Miraz...proteje of the dynamic Ramesh Powar.

Having watched most of the available footage on the internet of cricket going back to fifties, I think it's the other way around and spinners - especially finger spinners - on average turn the ball more now, even compared to the nineties.

Poor explanation as usual. Doesn't explain about the wrist spinners. And the finger spinners that got reported (Ajmal, Senanayake, Ojha, and another South African) were not big spinners of the ball at all. Either it was the doosra or they generally chucked it.

They got emasculated by fans stating that they became spinners because they couldn't bowl fast.

Chucking aided the doosra. Traditional offies like Swann spun it big with a classic action, this breed is disappearing as well unfortunately.

Kumble was from that era and didnt spin the ball big. must be just the era/pitches isnt conducive to big spin bowling and more 'subtle' variations. For example, leg spinners in the current era usually get carted around..Hardly any of them - they are a dead breed in test cricket.
