What is it about Cricketweb that puts people off taking part?

There are two types of cricket enthusiasts.…

1. The ‘story tellers’ (eg, Martin Chandler) who are primarily interested in the heroics and mythology of cricket, and therefore don’t care too much for numbers because they‘re into prose and metaphor.

2. The ‘number crunchers’ (eg. PrinceEWS) who will use stats, algorithms and mathematical logic to better understand the players and the game.

The problem is getting the two groups to gel, and making them both feel ‘at home’.

I joined here in 2007 as a 9 year old kid spurred on by my cousin who has also been here for a while. and just returning back here after 10 years I still remember the majority of posters from 10 years ago. It's insane.

I think as far as forums go, it's amazing. The freedom to post, of as good or little quality as you'd like to, is not something to be sniffed at.

I just joined a Man United supporter's forum (lol) and already I need to gain "credit" to be removed from the "nooby" forum into the "main" discussion, which is putting me off posting there as I really can't be arsed. All I wanted to do was to let off some steam and talk some tactics but it's annoying.

I also welcome the retro design on here. It hasn't changed much in 20 years and I welcome it all the more for it. It has all the functionalities you need for a good post without making it complicated.

As for its lack of popularity, I would honestly say that I think that's down to

a) do people really post in forums these days?

and

b) i don't think that Cricketweb staff have ever really considered advertising the website.

I mean seriously, how the hell is anyone meant to hear about this place unless they accidentally stumble across it or know someone?

Not saying it's a bad thing or anything, it's just the way the owners keep it.

this forum still is the 1st thing on google when you type in cricket forum

idk, not having millenials on here might be a good thing for quality but i was a millenial watching all of you clever posters and it inspired me.
