It's a really bizarre selection. My only guess is they really, really, reallywant a seam bowler who can kinda bat (see the SK selection).

And yet they ignore Nathan Smith and Josh Clarkson

Van Beek had 21 wickets at 34.33 in this season’s Plunket Shield. Which is pretty meh from my perspective.
Oh haha, really fell away from his 11-wicket-bag in his singular Spring plunket match. Yeah, that's a bad, bad pick.

Yes but bowlers of the Sean Davey ilk are taking 7/25 in a Shield innings these days.

In the same way you should be able to tell an early 2020s Daryl Mitchell or Tom Blundell just had so much more going for them than the early 2010s Kruger van Wyk ever did, the same is true when mulling over Logan van Beek's bowling vs. Clarke/Keene and others.

Smith's injured, Clarkson's the wrong type of AR. But I mean: Jamieson, Dougeh, Shipley, Smith, Kuggsy, heck Milne, why the hell would we ever really need another one NZC
Keep forgetting that about Smith, but like you say how many bowlers who can bat a bit do we need to try out? We're better off looking at a batter who can bowl a bit like Clarkson

Clarkson not even being called up to this squad seems a bit weird given that Abbas was called up for the second test. He's always been a gun Whiteball player and just figured out red ball + is in career best form, why not pick him.

Nice to see Hardie get a score after a slow shield season. Also nice to see Jewell continue on from where he left off in the shield season. Hopefully Jewell can get himself a county gig on the back of this, reckon there's a decent test opener in there somewhere.

Tbf, Nathan Smith is injured, and Clarkson is more the middle-order bat who can roll his arm over, than the fast medium who can swing a bat

Kuggs looking very round arm compared to when I last saw him (I didn't watch his test, maybe he was round arm then as well ?)

9 ball duck for CWs boi Abbas. Oh well, this is what A cricket is for. I'm glad we're giving him a look at touring opposition early in his career and against a duke ball too.

That's pretty respectable from Solia, but potentially an impediment to his personal success. I can see Auckland and NZ doubling down on him opening the batting when he's probably best in the CdG or white ball 5-7 roles.

Oh ffs, they actually played Abbas?
With the IPL, NZ squads and injury list, allrounders are thin so fair enough.

They just blatantly don't rate Clarkson imo. He's in the Colin Munro/Tom Bruce/Ajaz Patel/Lockie Ferguson in tests boat of pretending he doesn't exist.

Sorry guys, turns out Tom Bruce is the lynchpin of this batting line-up and is a secret gun . Tom the Bruce 4eva.

Quite good from Hay today, from what I've seen.

Watched some highlights of O'Rourke - guilty of bowling short and wide too often, but I still think if paired with a top bowling coach, some minor tweaks to run-up and action, and he could be extremely good. Two consolation wickets at least.

Highlight of the match so far Solia bowling a banana inswinger to bowl Wyllie. More Plunket Shield hax.

Solia probably bowled that ball about 30 times in his 7 overs lol, legend. He's had quite a good batting season opening so I do actually think he should be playing in this role for NZ A. Don't think he should ever play an away test though lol
