What is it about Cricketweb that puts people off taking part?

The scoreboard updates are honestly the least of my concerns, though I have asked him to add a little meat to the bone with those. The main asks remain not to create duplicate threads, to post cricket-related threads in the correct places (i.e. not in OT/Other Sports) and stop copy-pasting large chunks of cricinfo/cricbuzz articles and passing them off as his own.

Whatever it takes!!!
top copy-pasting large chunks of cricinfo/cricbuzz articles and passing them off as his own.
I honestly don't think he does this given he does post outside of these copy/pastes and this was the cause of the disagreement on the ban originally. Pretty silly to accuse him of this. But I agree with the other stuff you said.

"Here's my island, pop 180k. It's a soulless grid of efficiency with traffic at 87%. I've called it New Amsterparis"

There's actually a semi decent Facebook group for cities skylines where I've learnt a lot. There's one guy who meticulously crafts 0arts of his city with custom assets for the express purpose of taking a beautiful screenshot and it's great the amount of detail (down to things like benches and advertisement hoardings) that is in each shot. It's a creative game, afterall.
Some of the cities you can find with custom assets on Youtube are genuinely incredible. Like, how do you even as one guy plan out that level of detail.

I don't really know what to say to this other than it's not a matter of belief.

I am not gonna reply further as I think this has been discussed enough, or we can talk privately but it may not be a matter of belief but its definitely a matter of common sense interpretation.

indeed which also speaks well as to the veracity of this community and how it is actually warm and welcoming eh!

also it is hardly as if there's a carte blanche turning away of outside posters. @ashley bach and @Line and Length for example here's two examples of additions in the recent past who've been awesome!
incidentally you can add @Kenneth Viljoen as another new and interesting addition, and one from SA which is always nice!! now we just need more posters from WI to ease the load on SCC and Beamer who are both excellent posters but carry too much on their own??

I've been reflecting on this over the past few days, prior to this thread coming up.

Yes, CW is a group of 30 to 50 to whatever number of regulars.
Yes, it can take a while to fit in.
Yes, Burgey is a cantankerous old man.

But here's the thing - it's full of a decent number of regulars simply because of the discourse, and the ability of people to blend into the CW surroundings. Does that mean a beige, single groupthink approach to discussions? Absolutely not.

But what it does mean is a little bit of respect along the way, especially when you're new to the joint. If you move into a new area, and head along to the pub on the corner of the main street, you don't wander in, spitting hot takes about how **** Oasis are just minutes after walking into the place. You might gently mutter out loud about some midfielder failing to find their man in the box (:naughty:) but the last thing you do is wander around to every table and leaner unleashing your opinions on every topic under the barely visible British sun. If you did that on your first three visits, the locals and the publican would likely tell you to **** off.

So, when you sign up to CW, take a chill pill FFS. Don't jump into every thread (or start multiple threads for that matter) looking to fire up a fight. Take some time reading and starting to understand some of the nuances of the place.

Smudge has pretty much nailed it there imo.

This place is not the easiest for new members....all the in house jokes and memes make it confusing and it's not always obvious what to take seriously. And if you join here with a big mouth and a bad attitude you will get smacked down pretty quick by the masses......personally I don't have any issue with that. We've already named a number of relative newbies who've been excellent additions to the community.......its absolutely possible to fit in, just don't be a knob. It's that simple really.

We have a genuinely great community here with a bunch of regular posters who are interesting, knowledgeable and great value on cricket and many other topics. CW has become a daily part of my life and the fact we have so many regulars that have been here for 10 even 20 years says to me there's not too much wrong with the place.

Newbies couldn't post a hoop down a hill.
