What is it about Cricketweb that puts people off taking part?

Yeah, but it was also absolutely awesome to be a part of in the Nidahas final back in 2018.
tbh those were times when that place was good with less users. the match threads also had really good and funny comments. it exploded after someone spread word of it on live telecast i think and then you started seeing twitter and fb people join there heavily. now it is just heavily recycled jokes and the same **** always

Are there a few occasions where people are mildly unwelcoming towards newcomers? Sure, but overall the attitude is a net positive because it keeps away abonimable posters before they become established and it gets tougher to drive them away (jimmy leaving was a disappointment tho, he kinda misunderstood some rightful ridicule of another poster's bad posting as needless bullying). The size of CW's regular poster base is kind of perfect for what it is imo, most posters know each other so it doesn't usually feel like you're talking to an anonymous rando you'll never run into again.

The activity level from even the existing userbase has dropped for sure though, and the fact that some countries (non-India subcontinent nations, WI) barely seem to be represented here is a more valid issue with this place.

this forum will never have the same reach or userbase of r/cricket and im thankful for it. that place is a ****hole. you think analysis by checklist here is bad? wait till you go there and get hit with ‘akshaully Rabada was the highest wicket taker in Australia last year so he had a great tour’ and ‘Wagner is the Anderson of NZ cricket as shown by his spell against England and people have a fetish for wanting old cricketers to retire without supporting them’
Yeah when I was complaining about people thinking Rabada was fine in Australia based purely on his stats, it's because I was already seeing it on reddit.

Not Terrible
There are now several members at CW thatve been here for 20 years, I’ve been here for over 15. The community that exists here isn’t going to change (much) to accomodate new members. We’re happy for new members to join that want to be part of the community that already exists.

RIS joined in 2020 and it feels like he’s been here forever.
