What is it about Cricketweb that puts people off taking part?

The best thing about cricketweb is the ongoing game we play where we try to identify the latest incarnation of the type who joins up and participates in discussions reasonably, before descending into the style of posting where they go fishing for fights until they inevitably lose the plot and get themselves banned, and then we all look back in hindsight and say 'i knew it!'.

Surprised to hear it's a regular thing.

N+P is full of obnoxious grandstanding and counter pearl clutching but that's just a feature of political discussion everywhere. The rest of CW is alright. You'd end up with a decent number of users in CC if you also tallied up all the people who don't venture out of their niches I reckon.
Yup N+P is 90% made of social justice warriors who would act hostile at the slightest disagreement from their view.

Still the best place to discuss Cricket by far.. Everything I learned of history of the game came from browsing this place.

You literally just participated in a debate where half the regular politics posters were on opposite sides.
It doesn’t prevent regular posters from ganging up on someone (especially someone new to subforum culture) like rabid dogs. This occurs not so infrequently.

Little bit of civility would go a long way.

It wasn't that bad tbf. It was a non-issue tbh (and I was being argumentative too) except for the particular matter which I have pointed out. But thanks anyway.

They all have usernames like rootingforengland or brooks side so I can only conclude that the English are the blame.

It's just calling out dumb and bad opinions. If you think posters are ganging up, then a lot of them also think your opinion is dumb and bad.

this forum will never have the same reach or userbase of r/cricket and im thankful for it. that place is a shithole. you think analysis by checklist here is bad? wait till you go there and get hit with ‘akshaully Rabada was the highest wicket taker in Australia last year so he had a great tour’ and ‘Wagner is the Anderson of NZ cricket as shown by his spell against England and people have a fetish for wanting old cricketers to retire without supporting them’

Yeah, but it was also absolutely awesome to be a part of in the Nidahas final back in 2018.

As I said, the issue I was raising wasn't a group mentality, but if you're talking specifically about the Paltrow thread and trying to identify a "dumb opinion" then it'd be interesting to know which dumb opinion you were referring to. The opinion I offered was that Paltrow hadn't caused the crash, which the jury subsequently agreed 100% with. The opinion which I took issue with - and seemed to have no foundation - was someone saying that she'd have taken the case to court (in order to protect her reputation, presumably as being a good skiier) whether or not she was responsible for the accident.

Now that you've raised the point, it does seem in fact that you and some other play the man not the ball.

Who the hell even reads the News and Politics subbie?
I do. But it is of disappointing quality for discussion and debate so I tend not to post there too often. There are far superior forum sites dedicated almost exclusively to news and politics.
