Was going to make an argument for Mitchell batting 6 when we play 3 spinners and Phillips when we play 3 seamers. But I think Phillips should play every match.Yep, & Mitchell too & I could be convinced on the argument for Young over Mitchell in our top XI since I'm not at all a fan of Mitchell's bowling.
Phillip's plays every game for me, he's worth 10 runs in the field, and he's capable of this type of performance even on SC pitches https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...vs-new-zealand-3rd-odi-1339613/full-scorecardWas going to make an argument for Mitchell batting 6 when we play 3 spinners and Phillips when we play 3 seamers. You guys could convince me of;Good innings from Young though he did have a fair amount of luck. Was definitely tested by the Lankan attack but played a couple of very injudicious shots especially in Kumara's return spell, in between all the fine strokeplay. I guess the most important thing is he ends the home season with a shot of confidence which he can take to the Pakistan series.
I think a middle order of Phillips, Mitchell and Latham is very vulnerable against a quality attack if the top 3 has an off day (Latham nicks off in ODIs a LOT for someone who's a test opener by trade) which is why I'd still like Young in the top 4.
Nope. Different players with different roles, and Mitchell’s bowling is a couple of levels below Lord Colin’s. The player who *should* be matching CdG’s contribution with bat and ball is Macewell. TBF a subcontinent world cup gives him an opportunity to be as much of a factor as CdG was in England 2019.Can Mitchell fill a CdG shaped hole in NZ's heart?
Mitchell Macewell Santner Ravindra Sodhi and Philips is a great all-rounder set to have in the middle for the World Cup. NZ will be serious contenders with this unit.Nope. That is why you guys doing good 67.23% better than 1968-70.Kind of weird he's played against India so much and everyone else so little
On reflection this isn't that uncommon. Rizwan is gun in T20s and tests and this is a major nitpick but Steyn was notably better in tests and T20s than ODIs too though he was still the best ODI bowler in the world for a fair while obviously.I don't get why Mitchell is so meh at odis when he bats in tests like it's the middle to late overs of an odi.
He's also good at t20.

Simple explanation - he doesn't put anywhere near the amount of preparation into ODIs as Tests of T20. Why would you in the modern era? Your two routes to security are being a contracted test player or a T20 hired gun, being an ODI specialist gets you nowhere. On reflection this isn't that uncommon. Also he’s been batting at no.4 in 50 overs and tends to get exposed in that position. Someone like Scott Styris (the prototype for Mitchell?) could look similarly meh when batting at 4 but he learned fast on the job, and there was a lot of ODI cricket to allow him to do so. I guess Mitchell’s (unconventional) approach comes off less in ODIs also because captains are far more willing to set fields which cut off his particular scoring options.Simple explanation - he doesn't put anywhere near the amount of preparation into ODIs as Tests of T20. Yeah this is probably Rizwan's problem too. Hasn't figured out the tempo yet and doesn't get to practice the required skill set as much. Also he’s been batting at no.4 in 50 overs and tends to get exposed in that position. DiamondHow many balls do we reckon Mendis will face for today's duck?
Wooot, Milne is back had assumed he was getting a new leg sewn on.What an uninspiring batting line up named by NZ ... not that I think we'll be chasing much!
