Macewell does turn the ball a bit, pity he didn't take up spin bowling five years earlier than he did. In many ways the most obvious comparison is Mark Craig, both the overspin and the tendency to lose control on a bad day.

Haven't been able to follow as much of this match as I'd like, but looks like SL have reverted to regular bad tourist status after they played their best NZ match in at least a decade at Hagley. Sounds like their seamers bowled too short on day 1, odd after their lengths were quite good at Hagley, and it's been downhill ever since.

And Nicholls double hundred, how bout that.

karu’s had an interesting career in that there’s been now a few times he’s risen to being fringe top opener in the world but then a tour of australia or whatever comes along to knock him down again in people’s esteem - would love to now see him get really locked in as a top bat

Karu's interesting in that his overall record is good but the H/A gap is huge and he's struggled against the Big 3. Alas, big tons against the West Indies or whoever has the feel of "if a tree fell in the woods but no-one heard it".
