Whatever it takes!!!
Hard to see. Way I see it, both teams got 3 weak links.

Hayden, Mark Waugh and Brett Lee for Oz. Gomes, Logie, Dujon for Windies.

I'd rather go with the core WI team that won 11 in a row. Specifically, the one that won in Australia:

Greenidge
Haynes
Richardson
Viv
Gomes
Lloyd*
Dujon +
Marshall
Holding
Garner
Walsh

Wi side. Wi side has better openers and number 3 clearly. Aus have the slightly better middle order(because of S.Waugh, others are more or less equally good) and clearly the better wk. Bowling wise, even tho WI lack a good spinner and Aus have the greatest of all, but WI’s bowlers are all ATGs, whereas Brett Lee and Gilespie aren’t. Plus also feel that while WI lacks a spinner, the express pacer Aus has is merely ok.

Depends on venue . In Asian conditions, Aus are favourites because of Warne . In pace friendly conditions, WI are favourites

Warne and Gilchrist are huge difference makers here. I'd back Australia tbh

Marshall and Holding have great records in SC tho(although Warne will be a bigger threat). So in SC conditions it will be a tough fight, but in pace friendly conditions WI are very likely to win.

McGrath + Gillespie also have good records in Asia.

So in Asian conditions it is 60:40 to Aus
In Pace friendly conditions it is 70:30 to WI

In India, not in Pakistan unlike Marshall and Walsh.

On a flat SC wicket, WI will have a better chance.

Sounds reasonable. Didn’t know Gillespie had a good record in Ind(33 wickets in 7 matches).

I believe Gillespie of 2004 would have been successful in Pak too if given opportunities. He had a very good tour to both IND and SL iirc.

That is because McGrath bowled on complete roads in 98 tour . Have you forgotten Taylor scored 334 in that series. See bowling average of Akram and Akhtar in same tour

Second pitch a road, won’t say that others were.
Even in Ind, McGrath or Gillespie aren’t as good as Marshall/Walsh/Holding. Marshall and Holding took 30 and above wickets on dead wickets in the 83 tour, and Walsh is the best bowler to tour Ind.

So basically for Aus to beat WI , Warne and Gilchrist have to be at their peak . Because in other departments WI lead Aus .
