Harmer only opened the bowling as Coetzee was off the field tending to their foot. Mulder's at the hospital having a scan, Maharaj is now out for months and Rabada's back is playing up. Harmer and Markram should finish the game.

This is what happens when your decent openers fail and your middle order is made up of all rounders who shouldn't be higher than 7.

Surely this is the moment they rip up the batting lineup and try something new for the next series?

Da Silva once again looked good, he just got one that kept really low. I'd move him into the top 6 and Mayers down to 7 or 8.

That's all she wrote ! Sa clean sweep West Indies with a thumping win
Once again quality innings from individuals the main difference between the sides. I still think SA has a lot of work to do on its batting. Better batting teams will put SA under serious pressure.

Serious bowling lineup though, pace and spin.

SA's broader bowling group is up there with India and Aus IMO, and better than England. That says a lot for a team that I'd probably rank about 6th. Their batting is properly putrid.

Was good to see Bavuma convert though. If it were up to me he'd probably have played zero Tests so far, but he's been the best bat in a sorry team for a couple of years now and he deserved the big score for that.

WI though - this is what you get when you just give up on picking a middle order. As said by someone above, they're all #7 allrounders - Blackwood who any other team would consider a proven failure aside.

Needs to bat 5 to justify how bad his bowling is, I suppose.
This. Basically his clubmate is the Chairman of selectors. They tried to argue he was a specialist spinner in Australia, which obviously failed. But he got a 50 at number 8 so they seized on that to put him at 5 again despite averaging way less than 20 over a 3 year period. They have done everything they can to get him in the side, but surely now even they can't continue to pick him?

We need an entirely new middle order for the India series. Let's see how the FC matches go over the next few weeks, but if I were selecting now it would be Bravo, King and Athanaze.
