Yes Wellington really had their fingers crossed for Sears and Smith, that just hasn't worked out very well due to injury. Bowling coach is actually Abbas' dad now, he knows all the under-23 pacers in the country very well through his links to the NZ pace academy clinics, we'll see what he comes up with in terms of a stronger 2023/24 roster.

Yes that does look pretty unlucky re injuries.

While the bowling ends up full of older domestic mediums, Wellington's batting goes for youth but is equally unsuccessful. Coach(es) haven't managed to extract any consistent performances from any of the under-23s - Georgeson, Greenwood, Vishvaka, Robinson, Bhula, now trying Severin and Abbas.

That's kind of a nationwide trend though tbh, bucked only by Dean Foxcroft. For youthful domestic batting that isn't very flaky, you must recruit from the braai.

We'll see if it continues, but Mariu and Sunde have started well, while Heaphy, Parkes and Cumming have shown more promise at the top of the order than Wellington's youf so far.

How about this one - there was a young talent in the Auckland Gillette Cup final today who took four wickets and scored runs, is a member of the Blues rugby development squad and is being head-hunted by a few NRL clubs. Yet a has-been is the news.

If he came back to the game for the right reasons, great. I was actually welcoming of it when I initially heard. But not now."

Nice dig & well **** me, to think I'm the one who's taken raps over this last decade or so for his departure for questioning whether it was indeed him based on some the grammar used in some of his threads.

Turns out I have nothing on SteveNZ & a few others in terms of the inhospitality displayed.

Feeling somewhat vindicated since he was my school boy hero, and I was always made to feel somewhat guilty about contributing to his CW departure, but I'd never revisited the thread to see some of this & to realize my questioning of his authenticity likely had very little to do with it.

Hand fully up, I had some poor moments in that thread. I have no problem that I had an opinion, more so it was articulated really badly. And I was really inconsistent too, started off pretty comfortable with the comeback, quickly turned when he started playing, and finished off looking forward to having a beer with him when Howick played Cornwall. I'd been playing senior club cricket for over a decade and clearly had a defensiveness over the comments about the Papatoetoe pitch, and about not being picked for Prems straight away. I guess there was a feeling that he came back and stomped on my/our turf.
