They might have lost by 1 run (320/9 beat 319/8) but Michael Bevan's 185* off 132 for the ROW vs the Asian XI is the best chasing knock. The next highest score was M Waugh's 28, and the bowling attack he faced was Wasim, Vaas, Razzaq, Kumble, Murali, Tendulkar

I don't think it was a serious match

Viv's innings had a decent attack, came in at an impossibly bad situation, scored mostly with the tail at more than a run a ball in slow scoring era, scored a huge score with a major percentage of overall total, and was the only one with a notable score in the match. Plus some awesome shots that are still replayed today. Ticks so many boxes that there is no point comparing with another.

Buttler's 110* v Australia in this match

Given it was a dead rubber at the end of a pointless series against a terrible Aussie side, it probably struggles in comparison to others but for the sheer craic of securing a 5-0 whitewash when it looked certain the Aussies would escape with a consultation win, it has to be a favourite of mine. It was an excellent innings too.

For the stakes, context, strength of the opposition and the quality of the innings itself, it's hard to beat Aravinda's knock in the WC final.

Tendulkar's 143 at Sharjah and the 98 vs Pakistan my favourites for just pure stroke play and entertainment though.
When India chased a record 315 against Pakistan with that Kanitkar boundary, it was Sachin who first gave a superb start with 41 off 26 balls. That is one of my most favorite innings ever. It may seem so normal now to many but not at that time.

Kohli's 133 against Srilanka an option as well.

My personal favorite is Sachin's 143 by a margin.
There have been plenty of "better" innings once pressure, match and tournament context, quality of attack and conditions etc etc were all taken to account but I think that innings still stands out to me in my memory in terms of the "wtf am I witnessing" factor. Especially because for all intents and purposes that had become a 40 over game for India.

320 in 40 overs yeah. Insane innings. His demolition of Malinga was astonishing.

The Wanderers is a small ground with a flat pitch at altitude.. it's very conducive to mad scores
Can we not do this? Like we can nominate other knocks without undermining other nominations which will doubtless be some of the best knocks ever.

Viv Richards 189?

Ben Stokes in the 2019 World Cup final... given the conditions and the situation
Without question they are the best 2 innings I've ever seen

Viv's 189 not out was truly brilliant. He scored 189 out of the W Indies score of 272 and put on an unbeaten 106 stand with last man in Michael Holding, who scored just 12. The next highest score was 26.

Stokes' innings given the context was unbelievable.

All these flat pitch 100s that are scored nowadays don't come close to either Viv's or Stoke's knock.
