*Official* England in NZ 2023

Yuck it's going to be miserable weather throughout the first three days of the test. Will probably get some play, but the southerly will be in full cry throughout the first two days. Whoever has the bad luck of bowling from the RA Vance stand end is going to look like they've been through a car crash by the end of the test.

Are you not happy there is no play at least you will get draw

I'd prefer if we got smashed then Wagner retires, several players are dropped and the coaching/selecting gets a real shake up.

Although it would be hilarious if we get a rain affected draw and change nothing for the Sri Lanka series and then lose 0-2 to SL after India beats Australia 4-0 which would set up an India-SL WTC final.

They really need to get test cricket in Queenstown. It is the most scenic part of the NZ with the ground being up with Dharamshala and Newlands as the most beautiful in the world, it is a place where cricket tourists (Barmy Army or Aussies flying across the ditch) would want to go, and apart from the heavy rain for the adventure race earlier this week has probably been the driest place in the country this summer.

I know SL cricket is not at a high point at the moment, despite still being in the mix for the WTC final, but this will be their best chance to beat NZ in NZ for a long long time. NZ's bowling will be dependent on one or two seamers and the batting looks good on paper but has relearned how to collapse out of nowhere.

I imagine the facilities is the main thing holding it back at the moment. Would probably need a fair amount of investment from the regional/district councils to make it viable.

I'm feeling this way too atm. So disillusioned with NZC & our selectors in particular.

I want New Zealand to win, but only after a pre-match fan rebellion in which Larsen, Stead and White are all kicked to the curb and someone kicks Kuggeleijn so hard in the balls that Henry Nicholls has to carry him to Wellington hospital and the pair are replaced by Boult and Glenn Phillips.

That would be the second straight time NZ performances at home would be a huge factor in Aus not making a WTC final. Hilarious indeed.

Though I think the selectorial shake-up is more likely to happen if NZ flops badly in this year's world cup. You'd have to go back to 2014 for the last time NZ didn't make a T20 WC semi, and 2003 for the 50-over version. In tests the management seems to have the convenient "team in transition" excuse to explain away poor results.

The problem for the management is that the transition is going so badly because they have done an absolutely abysmal job in developing players. Talented cricketers like Ravindra, Phillips, Young. Patel and Chapman haven’t been given the opportunities that they deserved, and have instead be left dangling around losing more and more form and confidence - while the selectors instead busy themselves selecting guys like Macewell, Tickner and Kuggeleijn who are not just as old as their aging team-mates, but have done nothing to deserve their call-ups.

Saw Luke Ronchi today - outside the Bolton Hotel. Anyway, that's the most positive thing I can say about the state of New Zealand cricket right now.

I quite like this suggestion of Latham moving into the middle order although Finn Allen would probably go about as well as Zac Crawley as a replacement opener. Ravindra would be the preferred option.

Very good ODI bowler, but averages 40 in tests. Huge improvement on Kugglelijn though.
40 wickets @ 30 when he opens the bowling, 15 wickets @ 70 when he doesn't. I do think that's partly a coincidence - no-one would really have such a difference in effectiveness - but there's something to it. Averaging 30 in his six Tests in the past two years as well. I'm not a big believer in him but he's not really a 40 average bowler in these circumstances IMO.

Henry has definitely made big improvements. He was very unlucky against Pakistan in 2021 and since then he has been very good whenever selected (or on par with his mates, in the case of England 2022).
