Honestly they'd be better off looking at how Damien Martyn played. Playing back has its dangers on such low pitches but it at least takes a few danger modes of dismissal out of the equation.
At last from someone! and much better than the overstated perils batsman face with drs. Ian Chappell may grate on occasions with pet subjects but rarely covers important opinions on how to play spin. He believed in back foot play. Monty Noble in describing Trumper's method against the googly accentuated back foot play, only going forward to attack deliveries he could reach. We aren't facing googlies but the principle still works.

Which means the batsman must judge length and that requires practice. Something we just don't do. I can't see what planning our coaching staff has done except to panic after the first test and then in reaction, reverse sweep everything in the second. Because Hayden or something. There's no clarity because there's no goal.

Ash and Jadeja have bowled brilliantly and tbt I don't hate it even though Australia's on the end of a paddling. It's always good to see spin given conditions to flourish and a counter to the bias favouring pace in most other countries. But my word haven't we assisted them. I only saw highlights of the 2nd test collapse but the batting was cringe. Sadly our big brains justified it all by saying Usman scored runs with the sweep in 1st dig without understanding such a tactic is always against the odds and the casino always wins.

The Agar situation is so amusing from afar. They select a guy who by his own admission has played about '3 red ball games in 3 years' which is just crazy, don't play him, fly over a fellow LA offie then play that guy ahead of Agar, then send Agar home ahead of the third Test. Incredible stuff.
India has a way of exposing just how stupid our selectors and coaches are. Australia derails almost from the moment we land. The conditions India presents exposes the simpletons steering our game and they should pay for their lack of thought and preparation with their jobs.

Should have only named the squad for 2 tests without Green and Starc and Hazlewood.

The turn around between the tests was nothing so it was always likely they would miss both not just the 1st.

Then after 2 sets, should have reassessed and made changes to the squad accordingly.

You also often need to deploy different tactics as batsmen between the first and second innings as the bounce is usually higher earlier in the game. Have seen some really good batsmen sweep loads in first innings but not much in the second innings.

Rohit and Dravid are justifying KL Rahul's continued inclusion in the team based on the potential they see in him. They said 'you also have to take into account the potential a player has not just how they have performed recently'. But why are they then contradicting themselves by not acknowledging the obviously much greater potential in Gill. He is so young and has time to become a much better player than Rahul ever was and for many years to come. It is a considerably better move than persisting with a 31 year old who is averaging mere 25 at the top of the order since 2017. It's a blatant case of favoritism and inner politics.

If KL Rahul starts the next test, I will lose even more respect for the coach.

Dravid either has no spine or is favoring his fellow Bengaluru boy. But I hate to think of him in these terms so it's much likelier these decisions are being made during his post-anna sambhar siesta.

Australia doesn't think. Or observe. We just react and then badly. Look at the way India play. Note what is said about the variable bounce and the problems with sweeping in such conditions. Observe the way your opponents handle the same problems. I don't hear anything from Australia that looks anything like reflection and adaptation. We just fly guys in and out.

Lyon, Murphy and Kuhnemann are actually a pretty good set of spinners. Not as good as Shane Warne put together, but for these conditions as good as anything we've had. Which means India haven't been up against easy competition. They've scored runs against good bowlers. Their task isn't as difficult as the one we face but they don't make it harder for themselves. Whereas I think we're just throwing our hands in the air saying we've tried everything from sweep to reverse sweep - what else do you expect us to do?

That is so close to a very hb squad. Almost everyone except the keepers can bat and bowl, except Zampa as he cant ****ing bat.
What odds Warner gets some decent scores in the ODIs and this is used as justification to pick him in the Ashes squad?
