To the OP, if he gets his away bowling average under 30 yes. His batting is good enough as an all rounder.

The other great all rounders like Sobers, Imran, Hadlee, Miller were all at least great/very good home and away in their stronger suit. Sobers his batting, Imran bowling, Hadlee bowling etc.

Jadeja over Ashwin for me in Indias all time side. Ashwin has more wickets sure but it's hard to argue they're not equally as dangerous with the ball and Jadeja is the far superior batsman and fielder.

Rightly or wrongly, Jadeja is the one who has been asked to front up on their SENA tours while Ashwin gets dropped. It's been that way for a while.

So I think it just makes me trust him more when selecting an Indian side.

Nah Ashwin will always be a better bowler.. He is the leader of the pack..

Choosing between them is like picking between McGrath vs Warne. There is always an argument in favor of either player.

What I love about Jadeja is that not.only his batting technical skills that have gone up another level in the last 6 years, but his situational awareness and ability to adapt his game according to the team's requirements have been world class as well.

He is by instinct an aggressive batsman, but he had no issues playing an innings at 40 SR like in the last match. That too when the team was in a bit of a pickle, he complemented Rohit and then later Axar beautifully. The ability to bat long is sadly a fast disappearing skill and he has given masterclass in that. Not just at home but away as well.

He has become dependable and there is a sense of surety and calm he provides when walking into bat. India is wasting him at anything below 5 in my opinion. There was no way SKY batted above Jadeja in the last match, other than getting Jadeja some rest after his bowling.

Jadeja walks into almost any XI as a pure batter these days. And does as well as a specialist bowler. Add to it his fielding, and India is basically cheating by playing 12 full players. Perhaps why they play KL and Kohli who nullify that extra player.

If anything it's been the opposite, he is able to stay on the wicket, especially in India, over relatively long period of time since at least 2015 SA series. However he's really poor with the tail overall exposing them far too often & early in the over, especially away but tbf to him our tail also performed the worst among major nations till 2021 Eng tour.

Why not both? Jadeja can slot in as a middle order batter (at 6). Kapil at 7, Ashwin at 8.

Batting with the tail isn't a good comparative for batters . It's ridiculous to use that as a benchmark.

Just to add, Jadeja is wasted by asking to bat at anything lower than 6. He is a solid no.5 or at worst no.6. He can easily bat if needed at the top as well. He has a very good leave game and is usually a v good judge outside off stump (barring last innings)

He could've easily score maybe 500 more runs had he played higher up the order earlier in his career, even now he should be playing aahead of the likes of Surya Kumar! You don't score 3 triples in FC just being a hack.

Think he should be batting at 3 at the next test

sharma
Gill
Jadeja
Kohli
Iyer
SKY
Bharat
Ashwin
Patel
Shami
Siraj

that’s a beast of a lineup

Yes India can actually afford to play Kuldeep in place of SKY in that lineup. I would play Pujara instead of Kohli and make Jadeja bat at 4.

Ashwin is a superior bowler than Jadeja at home.

There is absolutely no reason to value batting prowess that highly over bowling prowess given one of the two will win games more than the other. I can see Kumble not being that high but he's still got 600+ wickets and was a good matchwinner at home.
Nah I rate bowling as more important. But subjectively, Dravid/Kohli have more well-rounded records.
