great batting depth. Fast howling is weak as you’d expect for an Indian alltimeXI. At home you’d play a third spinner like Bedi or Chandra. Could you make the case for Jadeja especially with his batting and fielding (eg the difference in batting between a bedi and Jadeja is not….small)? Maybe. But right now I would still go for the classical beauty of Bedi.

Who would the Indian test cricketers better than Jadeja be?

Kapil , Sachin , Gavaskar and Dravid certainly ahead of him.

Sehwag , Kohli , Ashwin , Laxman , Mankad , Kumble , Pujara , Dhoni all have decent arguments for being ahead of him although the opposite is true as well.

Vengsarkar , Ganguly , Azharuddin (ugh) , Zaheer , Amarnath , Umrigar , Engineer , Pant , Bumrah will have their supporters but I suppose Jadeja would have to be considered above them by the majority, at least for now.

Top 10 sounds roughly okay but it's possible he just misses that, certainly top 15 though.
Hazare as well in the 2nd group(Laxman,Pujara)
Merchant,if you aren’t going solely on Test is perhaps in the 1st group and surely 2nd.

An Indian team at home should look like the following:

Sehwag
Gavaskar
Dravid
Sachin
Kohli
Pant+/Dhoni
Jadeja
Ashwin
Kumble
Shami
Bumrah

Away is anyone's guess...

That's the top 5. Think Jadeja is top 10. Kumble for example is a better bowler, but think Jadeja and Ashwin are both ahead due to their batting contributions. I have Merchant in the top 10 as my romantic pick when it's red-ball rather than strictly just Tests.

Dravid is better than Kohli at the moment.

Is the top 10 for me discounting those old guys like Hazare Merchant Ranji Duleep Amar Nissar etc.

Kohli and Dravid shouldn't be higher than Ashwin, at best they're tied with Jadeja/Kumble at joint 5th.
I think Ashwin and Jadeja are debatable because of the all-round factor but objectively feel Dravid/Kohli are better than Kumble overall even though Kumble is probably more valuable in the right conditions.

There is absolutely no reason to value batting prowess that highly over bowling prowess given one of the two will win games more than the other. I can see Kumble not being that high but he's still got 600+ wickets and was a good matchwinner at home.

3 atg allrounders. we could drop kohli and pick another fast bowler if needed depending on conditions and play jaddu as a specialist batsman

Would rate Kohli below Kumble.

Sachin
Gavaskar
Kapil
Dravid
Kumble
Kohli
Ashwin
Jadeja
Sehwag
Mankad

I don't get why you Indian posters don't rate Mankad higher.

really struggled in the Ashwin / Kohli / Kumble / Sehwag category. Can easily rank them in any manner and be comfortable.

I think Jadeja needs another 20-25 tests at this level to have the body of work to go higher. He isn’t young but super fit so this is definitely possible. At that point yes he is an ATG.

Jadeja and Ashwin are definitely Indian ATGs

Plus Pant > Dhoni.

In Asian conditions, the team to play would be-

Sehwag
Gavaskar
Dravid
Tendulkar
Laxman/Kohli
Pant
Dev
Jadeja
Ashwin
Kumble
Bumrah

I doubt this team can lose at home even against Bradman and co.
