Thurs 9.12 am I wrote: "Nagpur, geographically almost dead centre of India. Is there a sinkhole there? And Renshaw ahead of Head?" If there wasn't a sinkhole Australia has now dug one for themselves. Renshaw: well...Head's in his head.

But we were only 180/5 cos our top 5 bar Rohit are ****, so swings and roundabouts.
When India was 5-180, India's best two batsmen Rohit & Jadeja were batting. Plus had Bharat, Axar and Shami to come. So there was enough batting left to take a minimum 100 run lead which wud have been enough.

Smith surviving as Australia get wrapped up below 100 will be the ultimate depressing image. Right up there with Hobart 2016 against SA.

Except there's no redemption arc in the second test, unlike 2016 vs SA. Their batting is going downhill fast, at this rate the next few tests will get even worse! I know hard to imagine but just check Eng post first innings on a flatbed at Chennai.
