No, but if it kept Baharat from writing an article or appearing on Offsiders on the abc then I’m all for it. Punishing.

Also disappointing that one of the poll options wasn’t “Anti-racism advocate who heroically dealt with Joe Root, who still has questions to answer.”
Warner would have been totally unaware of the Yorkshire culture when he hit Root. But then you probably know that.

Did somebody else read this on Twitter?
@Migara vindicated yet again tbh
nah seriously though, that's ****ed, and it's also the experience of many subcontinental, middle eastern and african people in this country

there's a lot of truth to that being how security people work in this place

Root was demonstrating the Yorkshire culture at the time of the incident tbf

questions to answer
None of us know what Root was demonstrating at the time - only he knows that.

What I would say about Root is that he certainly has some questions to answer as regards the culture at Yorkshire and the whole Azeem Rafiq affair. Its hard to believe that he never heard any racist comments at Yorkshire as he stated.

However, racism in society and in cricket is not just a problem in Yorkshire or indeed England.

The recent tweet from Usman Khawaja is yet another example of how much work there is to be done across all cricketing nations.

I thought it was pretty well known Root was doing an Amla impersonation when Warner clocked him?
That was what was alleged and he may well have been but only Root knows I there was any racist element to it.

Root may or may not be racist, none of us on here would have any idea about that.

Warner himself later said a mate of his was wearing the wig on his head imitating Lasath Malinga's hairstyle but Warner didn't lamp him.

As I said in my previous post, I'm much more concermed about Root's comments over the culture at Yorkshire than the Warner incident.

Ha, ha, you should have heard the way Mathews was referring to the incident. One of the lowest level sledging I have ever heard. They were basically discussing the uppercut, where it landed and how it could have re-arranged Root's face if had been delivered properly. I just lip read some lines of "getting hammered even as a white" and "face being so ugly" too. Mathews and the team never admitted they have sledged. But Root has indicated as such. But the lip read was unmistakable.

Great to see renowned hard man Angelo Mathews getting involved
He is the one with best command of English, so naturally he is the one to talk. Arjuna, Sanga and MJ were others known for sledging, because they were the ones with necessary abilities in English to deliver the lines. Guys like Sanath, Dilshan and Malinga deliver some sharp lines in native language, but when it comes to international cricket it is only few who can do it. There were players line Aravinda (other than for "midgets have bigger brains than Merv" retort) and Dimuth who generally don't do it, even if they are fluent. So it is a no brainer that from that team it was Mathews.

After hearing that volley of abuse, I was bit embarrassed as a Lankan, where some of our players were complaining of sledging by Aussies and Warner in particular.
