The legacy of Steve Smith

h_hurricane

International Vice-Captain
The bloke never ceases to come out of form. Even when he had a relative decline(by his lofty standards) during the early stages of the pandemic, he didn't have a sharp drop in his average.

Averaging 60+ over 90 tests now. Looks more or less certain that he will go down in history as the 2nd best ever. Likely to bring back the Border - Gavaskar trophy home after a long time. Thoughts ?

He will likely score as many runs as Kohli, Rahul and Gill put together. The trio is unlikely to be dropped and not even sure Rohit is fully fit. That makes it 10 other Aussies vs 8 Indians. And I am not banking on Bumrah due to his questionable fitness.

He had looked jammy in the past too. In the last trip, he scored one of the hundreds after being dropped like 4-5 times. That is what Smith does. He scores runs regardless of how he bats (good, bad or ugly).

State Captain
The best batter of the modern era by a distance. That last Ashes in England was astonishing. England just never looked like getting him out. The contest with Archer was fascinating (I thought Archer's hostile bowling in that series was overrated - he kept bowling short at Wade in the test where he hit a hundred - hit him a few times but got hit for runs just as easily) and his innings when he came back from concussion was so surreal that even Dali couldn't have imagined it. That England got him cheaply once - caught at leg slip - was such an anticlimax.

International Regular
Might be his hardest year with India away and England. Still expect him to do well enough but if he does have a dip in form then he could struggle
