The ton on was a real proper road too. Both teams made over 600 in the first innings and declared. Stokes and Amla both made doubles.

And despite this, only Elgar has either more tons or a higher average than him in the lineup. A putrid batting lineup on paper.

I feel like the most notable thing this session has been the real improvement in Alex Carey’s footwork behind the stumps. Be handy to hear @JBMAC ’s thoughts on it, but his lateral movement looks a lot better than it was last summer. Wonder if he’s focused on it through the off season.

Yeah. Mawoyo and Chibhabha too.

No need to say "on paper". A 3-5 of Rassie,Zondo and Bavuma is a sad state of affairs. Especially since they are all over 30 and not a bunch of youngsters.

Weird how there’s so often an otherwise utterly mediocre SA player who proves a road block for Australia. Both these blokes certainly fit that bill.

I'm not a big Temba Bavuma fan but people having a go at him is ridiculous in this moment in time , Bavuma before this game has been in decent form in Test Cricket.
His last two years in Test Cricket or last 10 Ten Tests he has scored 696 Test runs @ 46.4 , no hundreds but 5 50's from 19 innings which is fairly consistent ,
most of those knocks have come with SA in serious trouble so most definitely he deserves his place in the squad especially in this batting line up .

Also he's a much better Test batsman than Hamilton Masakadza , Zimbabwe is a much easier place to bat than South Africa and yet Hamilton only averaged 30 in 38 Tests ..
