KL is about as lucky as anyone else bar Kohli/Rahane/Pujara in the last few years. His competition for the spots are Rohit/Gill/Shaw/Agarwal and uncapped Panchal/Easwaran. About as fair a selection as anyone.
So in your opinion 43 Test matches @ 35 is good enough for an Indian top order batsman, captain no less ?

The other opener, Gill, averages only 30. Shaw, Mayank etc haven't proved themselves to be significantly better than KL in their chances as well. Rahul actually did decently in the England and SA tours while rest of the batsmen failed. So, it is just that he plays on merit.

I mean who exactly is punching through like Gill was? Have you seen how relatively good their records are in FC matches (without Tests)? And let's not act like everyone's been fit all the time.

Like ffs selection isn't chess where computers know everything and there's an objectively right answer, especially in this scenario.

Not good enough, no, but that's how bad our options are atm.

Hopefully Shaw apologises to whoever he's pissed off and gets another run in the side some day. He's got potential and is killing it domestically recently.

Shame Foxtel in Australia aren't covering this series and crictime stream is poor today.
Can someone give us an idea after about half an hours play how the pitch is playing, can only assume it's quite good given India runs spread is 465-480

Haven't tuned in yet but the prematch commentary was about BD are going to negotiate what is a "batters' paradise".

So if everyone is fit does Rahul make your starting XI ?

Tbf our batting in general has been toilet for a while. KL being there just triggers a bit easier than the others.

At the moment, sure. No one is noticeably better than him, but it's not like the team management hasn't been perfect with opener selection either. I'm sticking with KL for consistency, but let's not forget how quickly Shaw got ditched just because the pink ball moved around a lot and how quickly Gill got in. I have no problems if KL isn't picked but it's not like he's standing out at either ends of the spectrum with regards to Indian openers.

I mean people say this but it's not like we've been playing on flat tracks all the time. Bit rough to jump on players not performing well when given chances in conditions that favour bowling more.

Not all the situations we've been in have been that dire though. None of this lot have been able to construct an innings. They look clueless
