Stumped!

Even though Hafeez made an unbeaten 88 of 76 balls and picked up a wicket with the ball, I'd give Griff Whitfield the player of the match award.

He made things seem so calm out in the middle.

re CWC7 structure, 1 group single round-robin (games twice a week) IMO. Good to have a change from group / tier structure for mine. If we get exactly 16 teams - which would be great for anyone interested! - then we can do a Cup-style tournament as well as this SOD league.

To be clear that's 1 league of 14 teams? I don't mind that but think if we do go with that would prefer a system that has maybe top 2 go straight to semis with 3rd v 6th (winner plays 2nd) and 4th v 5th (winner plays 1st) to limit chances of 4 teams pulling away quite early.

Am up for a cup alongside it if we get 16 teams.

Whatever it takes!!!
Update on CWC7 teams

Winton CC
Charminster CC
Jura CC
The Wild Geese CC
Moooo
GG CC
Zor*x CC
Free HK
ataraXIa
AtaraX Wellington

14 teams so far

@honestbharani will you be setting up a new team? the more teams the merrier.

@Magrat Garlick will you be joining CWC7 - see its been a while since you've been active with Dynamo Morpork

Any new players wishing to join are also more than welcome to!

Any cautious ideas if we do end up with 14 teams?

2 groups of 5 and 1 group of 4 - based on seedings with affiliates avoiding each other when possible? Top 2 in each group and best 3rd placed side go to top div, other sides to 2nd div.

Home and away format for both league phases. 2 matches a week for both league phases. Same semi-finals (1st v 4th, 2nd v 3rd) as last time.

with 15 teams, 3 groups of 5 and 2 best 3rd place sides in top div, other 7 with an affiliate in 2nd div.

with 16 teams, 4 groups of 4 like CWC6?

Hoping we can start signs up in about a week and have Stumped generating games over Christmas with a start just after Christmas.
Nah, I am out for now, sorry.

With 14 teams I think we can do a single group, single stage round robin. 13 games each team.

For KO stage how about:

Eliminator 1 - 1st vs 4th
Eliminator 2 - 2nd vs 3rd
Winners take one spot in the Semi Finals

Eliminator 3 - Loser E1 vs 6th
Eliminator 4 - Loser E2 vs 5th
Winners take second spot in Semi Finals

SF1 - Winner E1 vs E3
SF2 - Winner E2 vs E4

Gives the Top 4 teams two cracks at making the semis, and 5th and 6th one chance.

Forgot to update default lineup post player sales. Oops.
DW. I'm in Singapore on holiday and have no idea what I've done with my XIs

We lost by just 1 run to TMO yesterday. Seems like a great game. Halliday nearly winning it for us with the bat

I will (like Moo), go with any format (thanks), and in terms of the number of teams we seem to have then, this time, the one league structure would allow everyone to play all their teams (so good) and make a change of format for us (good) , though I don't have an issue with the 2 . 3 groups etc.

My preference is , as JJ said, top 2 automatic qualifiers and then 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 - (that 2 chances etc seems unnecessarily complex and hard on the Top 2 after 13 games). Either you are Top 2 or you go in the pot with the other 3. 13 matches is plenty opportunities for us to say - we reward 1 and 2 with a SF slot and the rest can squabble like cats in a sack for the last two slots

I have forgotten though ... is it T20 or OD up next????

Unless there is majority support for above idea I would prefer top 2 go straight to semis with 3rd v 6th (winner plays 2nd) and 4th v 5th (winner plays 1st). I think it would give due reward for finishing in top 2 whilst being simpler.

Not sure if I'm missing anything obvious but it also seems like the quoted system is a harder system to duly reward top spot without repetition. In the above SF1 is likely to be a repeat of Eliminator 1 if results go with league position. If you swap the semi-finals over the winner in league phase lose their advantage at semi-final stage. Whereas simpler method limits this duplication - lose and you are out whilst still giving top 2 an advantage of reaching semi-finals automatically and giving 1st the chance to play lower ranked side in semi-finals if results go by league position.

Hopes for the Season

What are your hopes for next season - dare to make a fool of yourself and put them down here for everyone to resend in 14 weeks time?!?

  • Jura - To compete for and gain an OD or T20 title in Div 2.
  • Jura - To retain its Div 1 DEV status.
  • Jura - To break into World Top 40 and achieve its highest ever WR.

  • Geese - To avoid relegation in its first season in OD Div 2.
  • Geese - To promote from T20 Div 3.
  • Geese - To reach its highest ever WR (above 125!).
To gain an international squad place for the first time for either of its teams.
And finally.......... (and this will make me a marked man here!), to do the CWC triple and win 3 cups on the trot! ??

What chances would you give yourselves of gaining a title in both OD and T20 format and retaining Div 1 DEV status and being Div 1 in each format next season? Your targets certainly seem a lot more ambitious than mine would be!

Which would effectively don't be embarrased this season and see good growth from my players across the season. A more ambitious call would be
  • Try and get Will Fairhurst international recognition. Currently at 41 batting with a potential of 49 and is still 19.

More hopes than targets - shooting for the moon! I only hope to be in with a shout in eother T20 or OD for Jura - Last season we finished 4th or 5th so it is hoped we can make a little progress in one or the other. I dount we can retain Div 1 DEV status because as you all saw the DEV team feel apart at the end of the last month and will be a burnt out shell by the New Year - but again, until i see that the fight is hopeless we will try to survive there , you never know what ill wind is blowing for other teams caught up in the same cycle

So come on JoJo be brave - lets have some Southgate-ian targets !!:thumbup1:

For Winton in SOD 2.3 - of the other 7 sides - the lowest of the 7 were 59956 XPV. We'll do well to post an XPV of 35k I reckon. I just hope after a few games that managers realise that we are no threat and bat first against us - we can both maximise IGT then.

In T20 3.4 East Bengal CC hit a peak of 44.9k, Timezone Rejects 58.5k, CSK Riders fortunately look like they could be a human team only in name and a largely abandoned side. So if we can get top 2 there that'd be a decent result.

In DEV 1.1 the 5 teams from last season in that DIV peak between 46.8 to 52.4k. the other 2 promoted sides peak at high 47s.

So whilst a top 2 finish in T20 3.4 is probably possible for DEV 1.1 it is win a game or 2 and in SOD 2.3 get a few bonus points. I can't see myself overhauling a 25k or so differential in the SOD format and most likely will be starting with a focus on IGT from the very outset.

Rather than being Southgate's England we are more like Varrella's San Marino!
