Travis Head is a weird player because he has a number of pretty obvious technical issues which are exploited from time to time, but in between he's really good to watch and equal parts brutally effective and really important to this team.

Ideally Green would kick on and ultimately bat five with Head moving down to six, because he's archetypal for that role - got a great eye, hits through the ball and invariably scores his runs quickly. Basically a left handed moderate down grade on Doug Walters. Whether he's persisted with long term really depends on whether the rest of the line up is good enough for the selectors to acknowledge his inconsistency and accept it's the price you buy him at. Because when he's on he can win a game for you in very quick time.

I'm wondering what time to tune in tomorrow? Probably tea time to watch us bat? Feels pointless watching Marnus et all pile it on against a shadow of our bowling attack. Maybe I can set up an alert so it lets me know when Joseph is bowling so I can see some semblance of what test cricket is supposed to be?

Wonder what it's like in the sheds after Warner's manager's claims. Aside from the obvious allegations about the CA officials, it was clearly mentioned again that more than 3 people were in on it (team members) and he can't be speaking his mind without Warner's approval.
Anyway can't see him lasting long

Marnus a genuine chance here of being joint second fastest to 3000 runs.
Will be second on matches, joint second on innings.
Not just that with this innings or so he has the chance to surpass Smith (941) with the 2nd highest ever ICC Players Rating as well.

Going into this test match he has 935 points and with even more runs on offer on Day 2 he can really push on.

By the way, this is the 2nd time that Marnus has registered 3 consecutive test centuries.

941 is Ponting

Smith was 948 I think

Heads spot in this team is slightly undervalued IMO. We need someone in the middle order who can pile on the pain after the top order get some runs now that Warner has fallen off. Was something we sorely missed at the back half of the border Gavaskar series in 2021.

Whatever it takes!!!
Even in 2000-01 when the Windies lost 5-0 they had Nixon McLean, Mervyn Dillon, Cameron Cuffy and a few other guys who were at least hitting 140kph, to back up Walsh. This is so tame.
Yeah think that attack was unfortunate to face the ATG Aussie side backed up by some home umpiring help as well. That attack would definitely have tested this Aussie line up far more. And the batting had Lara and Chanderpaul.

This is a great reminder that Head > Wade....

Its an obvious fact to anyone with brains tbh.
Well no

What I heard/read was Warner hatched the stupid plan midway through the test, brought it up to Smith who was gone in the head for all acounts basically shrugged it off and Warner then initiated the whole thing.

What I'm specifically referring to here is the use of sand paper. I don't know if they were using other means like mint like Faf etc

Textbook cope. There is literally no way to even slightly alter the state of the ball without your pace bowlers explicitly approving it, let alone them not even noticing it. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you. Messing up the ball is the gravest sin any fielder can commit.

Also it's hilarious that Smith is exonerated for his role in cricket's most brazen cheating scandal because he's simply too pure for this world. Just like every time he doesn't score runs it's because he's too tired from scoring runs instead of being a fallible batsman. The bad man did the bad thing without any input from the captain or bowlers.

It almost reminds of me how some Indian fans (ok, a lot of Indian fans) talk about our test #4 who retired in 2013.

It always seemed exceptionally unlikely that only Smith, Warner and Bancroft knew that the condition of the ball was being altered.

The bowlers must have known at the very least something was going on. They have the ball in their hands, they must have noticed if it had been marked due to sand paper.

The other issue for me was this the 1st time they'd done it - I don't believe so.

Obviously Smith has been forgiven as he's back as skipper with Cummings being out but Warner never has.

As an England fan, I have a particular dislike for Warner which dates back to before sandpaper gate.

However, from afar, he does seem to have taken more than his fair share of the blame. Let's face it, he's an easy target.

Smith was captain on that tour and knew what was going on. I find it pretty surprising that he's captaining his country again.
